This little moron hitched a ride in my bag while I was in the forest, found him running around frantically in a circle on the floor. A bit of grape seems to have calmed him down for the moment but he's hyper as frick and will likely die overnight. Do I just toss him out? Idk where the hive is and it's too late to return.

You did a good thing, anon.

Look into keeping ants if you liked the little feller, it's an easy, rewarding, and (as far as pets go) fairly cheap hobby.

OP is the definition of a Chad

Thanks for being compassionate to other living beings, we need to see all life as a miracle and treat it as such.

God bless you OP, may Him and nature give you back the love you gave to this little defenseless ant 🙂

Hope she made it back okay.
Or you can make an experiment, place your bag at the same place and see if more hitchhikers show up. That way youll know if she told her friends theres sweet grapes on the way.

Pretty sure I got the spot right, at least there was a bunch of them crawling everywhere. Brough some grapes and yeeted her at them, immediately went to stuff her face. Mission accomplished I guess hooray.

By hitching a ride she basically accepted a lonely death far from her family. But, by hitching a ride she got to enjoy a delicious grape. She made her choice.

She (almost all ants apart from some elates are female) is fricked. The chances you find the nest location is slim to none, and only queens can operate solo, and even then not for any set amount of time. Without pheremonal signaling from It's colony It's just going to be lost and confused (as much as an organism that basic can be) until it runs out of gas. Either squish it or put it back into the forest and let it take its chances and/or return to the earth.

He's a big lil fricker. Ants are surprisingly hardy so if he's fed he could survive a few weeks. How far is the forest? Some colonies have territory spanning miles so he might be able to pick up a pheromone path even at the edge of the forest.
The odds are against drones from birth so I wouldnt beat yourself up if he dies, even if you release him he has a sizable chance of being hunted before he makes it back to the colony. They're super cool to look at under a israeliteelers loop or magnifying glass while you've got him.

Like 7-8 km. I put the ant in a large tupperware with black paper and a few grape slices with extra sugar on top, in another box so it's dark. If it survives until tomorrow afternoon I'll bring it back.
