    >closest living relative
not true. all birds are equally close to any non-avian dinosaur.

to clarify: they are closer to some dinosaurs than to others. but once you choose a non-avian dinosaur, all birds are equally close to it.

    Jesus Christ

Sup dudes, your buddy Jesus here

I spoke to God and he confirmed that birds are dinosaurs and humans are apes.

Also, I wasn't an ugly israelite. My contemporaries described me as handsome and fair. And yes, I DID smoke weed, but only a little, and it wasn't the strong stuff. Big deal. God said it was ok as long as I got a job. Now stop wearing mixed fabrics or you're all going to be sent to hell if you get caught defending that shit in front of st peter.

I don't like when people say birds "are" dinosaurs. It triggers my jimmies.

The main difference as a layman is that dinosaurs have teeth and birds don't. I think that's a pretty good distinction.

It's like humans are not apes, because apes are hairy. It's not a scientific distinction maybe but a linguistic one.

I do think that scientists, especially some palaeontologists, need to improve their science communication skills to get the public on-board with their discoveries (the more the public cares the more funding you get). But birds ARE dinosaurs, same as humans ARE apes. Why lie to the layman? People can grasp these concepts.

See I would say humans are not apes (but yes primates). Apes are what we evolved from, not what we still are. Dinosaurs are what birds evolved from.
Because if you go back far enough we're all fish.

Frick you I'm not a fish. I'm an ambulatory multicellular bacterial mat.

small price to pay for making 'fish' monophiletic.

You have to understand that normalgays think evolution is like Pokemon where it's just 1 species changing into 1 species.

Dinosaur is not a type like pitbull or husky where if enough traits change it stops being a pitbull and becomes a toadline or klee klai, and every sufficiently similar dog is part of the type, like staffordshires, american bullies, and APBTs are all "pitbulls" and malamutes, alaskan huskies, and siberian huskies are all casually referred to as "huskies".

Evolution is not dog breeding, and classification is for scientific purposes, not social purposes.

Dinosaur is a clade, it's a hierarchical classification system. Remember "all toads are frogs, but not all frogs are toads"?

And you can not evolve out of a clade because the classification system is a hierarchy. You are not an ape because you are hairy, you are an ape because you ARE AN APE. You are the direct descendant of apes. You are a derived type of ape. You will never stop being an ape. As your descendants change they will always just be "An ape, but, and, with a"

Because this is how we classify life. It's arranged according to evolutionary descent.

      > But birds ARE dinosaurs, same as humans ARE apes.
See I would say humans are not apes (but yes primates). Apes are what we evolved from, not what we still are. Dinosaurs are what birds evolved from.
Because if you go back far enough we're all fish.

      Yes, humans ARE apes.
      >buttttt i consider that insulting
Trannies consider being called men insulting but no matter what, they were born from men, as men, and will live and die as men. They will never be women. You will always be an ape. And a lobe finned fish. In fact, your mother goes further than that and looks like a whale. But your skeletal remains will tell the story - you are an ape as much as a troon is a man, now and until the end of time. You'd have to draft a fake anatomy book and cremate your body to convince the future otherwise.

Actually "Toads" do not exist, all Anura are Anura.

theyre not even that related to trex either since their ancestor is not trex because it existed at the time as trex, and even then, you have go back to early jurassic, to find their last common ancestor, maybe even the triassic since that was when the major groups of dinosaur lineages started
