Silverfish

The humble silverfish. Is it possible to keep these in a colony as you would with isopods? Discuss silverfish and silverfish keeping, if that's even a thing

    i hate these things
rarely hate bugs but how invasive these things are
i can tolerate spiders, moths, slugs
but these just seem to be a pest
glad to see people actually enjoy them though, how unusual

Like on the floor? Do you find them cute, or what is the appeal?

I vacuum and mop the bathroom once a week with vinegar and floorcleaner and these little Black folk still crawl around at night there. I have no idea from where they are coming from and I kill every single of them how the frick do they do it. Literally every corner is clean the only thing on the floor is a mat that also gets washed weekly.

They like dampness, maybe a dehumidifier or damprid would help. I have them and I use diatomaceous earth around the doorways and baseboards and it makes a difference

I let spiders take over the second floor of my house were I had them and now It's been two years since I saw one.

I did this before in the upstairs level of my place but it backfired, I got a bunch of centipedes that were thriving off of the spiders. And I do not frick with centipedes

Silverfish are apparently really annoying to culture and prone to dying. Firebrats are easier despite needing high temperatures

Firebrats are bred as niche feeders for herps and inverts and are really easy to keep. Silverfish care is probably identical, just without requiring a lot of heat to breed.

To clarify, I'm not thinking of keeping them myself, I just found one in my bathroom the other day and I was wondering if it's possible to keep them at all. I have an isopod colony living in a bioactive setup and I enjoy that just fine 🙂

These pieces of shit are everywhere in my house, they even crawl up my bed.
How do I fricking exterminate them all?

You could try to bring a scutigera at your place but the treatment might be worse than the disease.

vacuum and clean regularly, change HVAC filters and use air purifiers. remove anything like cardboard or old stacks of paper. put diatomaceous earth under the baseboards. maybe they will still thrive in the walls or something, but at least keep your own spaces less inviting

you need to spray some shit for them, pull everything away from your walls and spray all of your baseboards everywhere. to prevent them, make sure there isn't excess moisture coming from anywhere and reduce clutter. if it's a bad enough infestation you will need an exterminator

I squished a silverfish once, there was no guts, they are like air.

I hardly ever see them and assumed it was because it's humid here.
I moved back home and cleaned my drunkard dad's hoarded house and saw exactly one.
For context, about 800 solo man hours over the past 6 months so far, including a maybe 400 gallon sewage back up in the basement that had molded and dried. I'm still not done. But, hey, I'm informed I'm a worthless leech guys.

    earwig > silverfish

In what way are earwigs better? I'm not a fan of them because they eat garden plants. And they look gross to me. The silverfish looks and moves in an interesting way. However the silverfish is also a pest which can eat books, but I'm curious what your take on earwigs is.

Grabby tails. Underdog (silverfish are invasive, earwigs aren't.) Genocidal. Fun old wives' tale about them eating your brain. Brown > silver. Not in m*n*cr*ft. They're relatively intelligent. Earwigs are based.

Interesting. I didnt know silverfish were invasive. Brown is one of my favorite colors but usually animals dont look metallic, which is why the silverfish is cool. Also it moves like fluid and has a silly little tri plume tail thing. What do you mean by earwigs genocide ?
