Seems like cats are a big threat to nature. I think cats should be considered for being banned for ownership.

i really only care about birds. if cats want to step up their game and start killing deer and rabbits they're welcome to.

maybe we can switch to pet pumas

They already kill a good amount of rabbits, squirrels too.

It sounds like the other animals need to step up their game. That's evolution, cats will kill, those that are fit will survive and reproduce with traits better at dealing or compensating for the presence of cats.

I love my little floofybums SOOOO MUCH
      SO MUCH
Like, I just love her so much that ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I have to ummmm let her run away outside everyday and I don't see her for hours or even days sometimes and she's out there eating rat poison and running across the road where she might get hit or attacked by a dog or other cat but bro, dude, I LOVE MY CAT so that's why I have to chuck her outside to fend for herself because I love her so much that I barely even have to take care of her and if she dies in a ditch after getting her spine crushed by a car when then FUCK CARS AND FUCK DOGS BECAUSE I BET IT WAS THEIR FAULT!!!!!!!!

Epic post my dude, but if it was so dangerous outside how come so many Waufners have outdoor cats that live longer than average?? In fact we've had an outdoor only tabby that's been in the family since vietnam.
Yeah, when I saw old pictures of him the white patch on his face will sometime be on top of his head or under his chin, but my mum told me cats shed their fur and change colors throughout their life so it's normal.

Tl;dr let your cat outside whole and intact instead of getting morbidly obese on goyslop, he'll live longer

How do dogs compare to cats in terms of killing and being a threat to a natural ecosystem? Do they come close to being as much of a problem? My childhood dog killed about four squirrels in my backyard in the 8 years my family had him

They cause ecological damage, but it's not as prominent because the vast majority of dogs aren't released outside without supervision and most of them can't hunt anyway.

Dogs mostly kill vermin except in aus, NZ, and subhuman shitholes where no one practices anything resembling effective law enforcement and animal control, then they are a mild problem.

      So not in civilization really

My black lab ate two wild bunnies whole in one day. But my chow/GSD mix can’t kill anything. He likes the chase but he has no real prey drive. Dogs will kill vermin but vermin reproduce like crazy. I’d say same for cats too.

It's the animals that leave their home territory that do all the damage. Once they start roaming, they run into animals that are not used to or expecting them, as well as more sensitive species that don't exist anywhere near people.

Basically your cat CAN go outside but if it goes over the fence I don't care if the neighbor's bored dog/crazy son kills it. So... exactly the same standards applied to dogs.

There's a reason the government pays people to shoot coyotes in some places. Most regular dogs are kept behind a fence or indoors, so its not much of a problem generally.

Leash laws work and cats should have them too.

Sure, a bug and a fly. I call it bullshit.

Most house cats don’t kill anything ever. I think there’s a bunch of cats killing shit and bringing the average up.

These numbers are completely made up. Two killed animals per week on average, for house cats, is just total bullshit.
Reading it online doesn't make it true.

Its an average over the population. The roaming gay cats probably kill more which compensates for the actual good cats not killing at all.

            Anonymous

Even if you take that into account, those numbers are just stupid. Seriously, take into consideration that some random infographic you see online might be straight up wrong. They must have fucked up with their esteems.

Most people are too retarded to take care of cats. There should be a pet cat loicens and people who let their cat outside would lose it.

Unironically this. Especially in areas where cats are not native.

This and all cats found outdoors should be shot on sight. Cats can be good pets but they tend to me even more neglected than dogs.
You don't have to worry about your cat mauling the neighbors or eating kids, so it's just accepted that it's okay to let them outside unsupervised.
