Scorpions and Women

I just now came to a realization that there is oddly enough some sort of obsession with women keeping and owning Scorpions, they even get tattoos of them.

Is there a reason for this?

Honestly, partially because It's as cool as a spider and triggers less the bug fear, because they're ancient animals, pretty and beautiful. Not to forget the astrology bit the other anons mentioned, since scorpios are hated they are more likely to grow attached to the creature their sign came from, Itls playing a BIG part into this. You can own a fish, crab, vase or scorpion but you can't have a whole bull or lion unless you live in THE perfect place for them so they're one of the more accessible astro pets you can get. While you can just chill with the lil' guy all day if you can provide for It. It's much easier to access and since It's carnivorous you can feed It bugs you don't like. It's a friend, just never leave your shoes where it can go or on a lower reach, and do check them either ways. This goes for people living in countries with scorpions too btw. I have a three ambered ones at home did wish I could keep a live one but I'm unsure I can keep an animal, so far I'm working with plants and liking them a lot. Hope that helped. They're so fricking cool.

They're getting caught in the wild way too oftenly for the pet trade and it has basically dried up their populations and genetic pool. Big ones like Emperor scorpions now sell for 60-80$ when in the past it could've been sold for something like 5$.

Oh that's a shame. I remember hearing that about Emperor's a couple years ago. I always went for captive bred for that reason. Seems I can't even find those in a lot of places now though.

If I had to guess it's mostly because they're "safe dangerous," in that they LOOK like they're seriously bad news but even deathstalkers are typically non-lethal unless you're already sick, and the more popular big boys are completely harmless.

Not to mention the big lads are specialized in crushing things with their claws instead of utilizing venom. Every single keeper of emperor or asian forest scorpions have said their stings are less potent than bee stings.

What allowed Scorpions and Sea Scorpions to grow so big in the past? I know there was more oxygen but there were other arthropods around and it seems only millipedes and arachnids reached such sizes.

arthropod size drops correlate better with vertebrate predation than with oxygen levels.

Imma just drop some kinda wholesome facts for black scorpions.

Despite what its read online, Scorpion mothers don't just abandon their offspring as soon as they are able to walk on their own or they'll eat them. It is actually quite documented that they'll take care of their young even after they've had multiple stages of molting and the mothers have been seen to cut fresh kills to chunks to feed their young. It is entirely up to the offspring to leave the nesting area and they're only forced to leave after they've reached sub-adult age.
An Extra fact to add is that they're among the only arthropods that give live birth.

      Anonymous

Crazy that so many creepy crawly mothers tend to be great parents. Centipedes, spiders, scorpions, etc. Guess that’s a big part of why they’re so prolific.

I mean, they're among the oldest lineages of Arthopods for a reason.

I feel like there's always another thing to learn about scorpions... had no clue they did live birth, honestly wouldn't have thought any arthropod would. Up until now my favorite scorpion feature was their sensing combs underneath them. I might need to get one...

Here's some more lesser known facts about scorpions:

Their claws and stingers are coated with thin layers of Zinc and Iron. That makes their claws and stinger sharper and in result makes them penetrate and crush invertebrates easier.

thank you for leading me to read more about this

I hope that some day we can more fully understand how their zinc-hardened proteins work. Apparently this tech is all over the place in the insect world. And we vertebrates get stuck with shitty, chunky ass calcium 🙁

Depends on the context. Maybe if you snuck up on them and threw it in their face, yes. But if you acted like a non-sperg and gently asked them what their thoughts about scorpions are, and then offered to them one, they wouldn't panic. This may not be something that an incel can understand, though

All of the rat owners (over 10) that I know personally are women. I only know one person who owns a pet tarantula and she is also a woman. She is incredibly autistic but her pets are treated very well. Such is the way of the invert-autist.
I find it funny when Incels who are into something they insist is niche (the invert community is huge) because they're desperate to be special, constantly whine and b***h about how shallow women are for not being into the same '''niche''' things they are. Yet the moment a woman is into it, suddenly doing this hobby for attention is narcissistic and a bad thing.

While it doesn't actively harm the scorpion, it does make its lifespan a bit shorter and more prone to health issues down the way. Scorpions can go an entire year without food and they can stretch out this much because their body is made the same way as their close relatives, the ticks are.
