I don't mind, but I definitively prefer if they ask first, sometimes they'll just crouch down to pet it and I'm forced to stop, can be a bit annoying.

Dont care as long as they ask
People who pet dogs wothout asking are moronic or malicious

if you know your dog is reactive around other dogs and you take him out in public without a muzzle, youre not the amazing dog owner you think you are

There's a difference between a dog that gets anxious when another random dog is in its face and a dog that is feral and violent, though you probably already know that and just wanted to say something stupid.

        theres no practical difference
either your dog is socialized and unreactive or it isnt
but keep getting mad because its always the other dog's fault that yours is triggered, right?

Socialized dogs do not necessarily respond to dominant, pushy, and rude behavior with complete submission and docility. You'd know this if you owned dogs.

Every dog has its own personality type and females, especially intact females, want space and respect from "lesser animals". This is most likely closely related with how they instinctively rear children and punish them for stepping out of line. Many dog breeds resemble puppies. Females of any sex status also compete with other females for dominance.

Socialization is what makes the difference between your dog getting noisy and scary looking and your dog really flipping the frick out and putting their teeth on them.

basically this. dogs are not teddy bears and never will be. other dogs are always a frick-up point because DOGS THAT DO NOT KNOW EACH OTHER ARE NATURAL ENEMIES. they are not humans. dogs do not form organized societies. they are not pro-social and constantly trying to make alliances. dogs have their in-group, and everyone else is competition until the pecking order is established.

i never said they do or should
if youre one of these people who think dogs having a quick snap at each other is the end of the world you probably shouldnt bring your dog out in public at all

          >Bad dog owner disobeys leash laws or drags their dog so it's in your dogs face
          >your dog gets mad
yes its their fault. hey how would you feel if i pushed you around like that? get in your face? called you a little b***h? started telling you i could kick your ass? if you're getting mad maybe your worthless prostitute of a mother shoulda raised you better. aw you gonna cry? baby gonna cry? you're not even a real man. look me in the eyes. b***h. are you gonna cry now? can't look a real man in the eyes?

that's pretty much what your dog with one single IQ point and the self control of a rock experiences

im not talking about dogs "getting mad" at each other
im talking about unsocialized reactive dogs who lack the basic skills to be able to get mad each other
i had a previously well socialized hound dog who completely lossed her socialization skills after a botched surgery left her deaf and brain damaged
she reacted violently to a strange violating her space
it was an accident, i didnt expect it, and i paid the vet bill
she wore a muzzle after that because it wouldnt be an accident if it happened a second time

There are cases of people sending their children to pet dogs in hopes they get bit so they can sue the owners
            This shit happens

again, if you think theres even a chance your dog could be violent towards a child and you bring your unmuzzled around children, youre a not much better than the parents using their child as bait and you deserve to get sued

I'm so sorry to hear that your dog has gone through such a tough time. It's understandable that you might be feeling frustrated, but it's important to remember that your dog is still the same loving and loyal companion that she was before her surgery. Just because she can't hear or communicate in the same way doesn't mean that she doesn't understand you and still want to be around you.

There are ways to help your dog regain her socialization skills. With patience and consistency, you can help her learn to trust and interact with people and other animals again. There are also many resources available to help you, including books, websites, and support groups.

Don't give up on your dog. She may be different than she was before, but she is still worthy of your love and care.

                shes dead but thanks
she lived a long happy life but she was a bit of a liability
a muzzle isnt a bad thing
i used treats to get her to wear it happily and beyond protecting other dogs from her it serves as a visual deterrent to other people that maybe they should give her space

she had a chronic infection in big droopy hound dog ears
                the surgery was unauthorized
i honestly dont know what happened but it was traumatic and nearly killed her

It is true that my dog's surgery was unauthorized; however, it was necessary to save her life. She had a chronic infection in her ears that was not responding to medication and was causing her a great deal of pain. If the surgery was successful she’d be healthy and happy. I would not hesitate to do it again if necessary.

They exist because old euros thought they would act like makeshift ear muffs and protect their dog's ears from gun-related hearing damage.

    >i am in reach of my dog
-np, if they ask. mostly happens with children.
-if my dog goes to them its ok.
-if they go to my dog, and dont ask and my dog doesnt mind i dont say something.
-if my dog dont like it i say something.

if you see a dog waiting for the owner in front of a store or something like that dont pet it.

Depends on if they're moronic or not. So many people where never taught proper dog safety and think they can just go up to a dog and do whatever the hell they want with them. Lucky I have a lab but I do sometimes wish she'd maul some of those mother frickers, specially the twats that completely ignore what I tell them to do and then wonder why my dog won't let them pet her.

My dog is friendly, intelligent, and well socialized. They get along excellently with all people and will sit there and relax while kids play with her ears.

What pisses me off is other dog owners. Everyone seems to think it's adorable to come out of nowhere and shove their dog in my dog's face. They think it's adorable when their 5 year old golden-lab-thing acts like a puppy and licks and nibbles her face. And then she snarls, snaps, and generally reacts like a dog who just had another dog forcibly shoved in her face.

They even do it when she's pooping. Why, tell me why, should my dog have a goldendoodle shoved in her face when she's trying to take a shit? Why would someone do that when I'm trying to tie up the primary shit bag and the second one that I use to dispose of the sanitary gloves? Do they want my dog to be put down when she reacts like, you know, a tethered dog that is having a poorly socialized mentally stunted manchild of a canine shoved in their face?

Mine's a service dog so I prefer they ask first, but he's friendly and loves meeting new people so I don't mind unless he's actively working. I've only had one really bad experience with normal people in public and that was some karen trying to follow me around a store and provoke my dog into reacting to her so she could sue me. At least that's what it seemed like she was doing.
is 100% right though - frick other dog owners. Every time I run into another dog owner in public they always try to bring their dog too close to mine and then one or both end up getting reactive and now I have to stop a fight from happening.

The average dog owner is just an idiot. It's just not a safe idea to bring your dog around other dogs, especially in public where both dogs are probably already overwhelmed by the amount of people and noise. Most dogs are fine with people but get reactive around other dogs, especially strangers they're not used to, so even if your dog is fine around other dogs there's a pretty good chance the other dog isn't and it's going to cause a problem. Most people involved in structured dog training or competition have a much better understanding of this and keep their dogs away from other dogs in public.

The average pet owner is an idiot. The average person in general is an idiot. Remember, 50% of the population would score at or below 100 on an IQ test and an IQ around 110 is barely enough to be functional as a responsible human being without smarter people or a half decent religion telling you what to do every step of the way.

the average dog owner thinks everyone and everything should be happy to have their gross smelling golden shitriever in their face. the average cat owner thinks everyone needs to be grateful for their pets presence in their garden. the average fish owner thinks a drinking glass is sufficient for a prussian carp. the average rat owner can not imagien why a rat would not live a long healthy life in a shoebox. i'm pretty sure ferret owners are the only good ones, but that's because they don't have any friends. while we were getting laid, they studied the weasel.

I despise them, primarily because they always run up to a big douberman like they've lost every goddamn lick of sense in their mind. The younger ones will jump out into the fricking streets to get to her.
I don't mind much with my smaller dog though.
