Primate biology and evolution

What drove the evolution of primates to go from living among the trees, to quadrapedal locomotion, to bipedal locomotion, and would that evolution have an impact on intelligence?

hey here's something fun about human evolution
if signaling theory holds water then male pattern baldness in low test weak men is likely a dishonest signal of high test natural baldness, but has existed so long that women have learned to associate it with the low testosterone dishonest signal instead of the original high testosterone honest signal when judging potential mates

      >male pattern baldness
Has nothing to do with men as it's a trait passed on by the female genes.

It's a strange way or seething. They don't do this to the lemurgay because animal abuse doesn't provoke them as much as an imaginary animal does for some reason.

if lemurgay posts pics of animal abuse he'd be banned fast. He knows as long as he posts words it's much harder to report.

        words less so.

But why don't they bump his threads fast like they're doing with this one? They just let him post and bump his threads when he wakes up, and then when he leaves it goes back down to the bottom until he's ready to post again. They don't help him reach bump limit like here.

The problem with a schizophrenic bot is that bots follow strict rules while schizophrenics break rules of thought by definition. How do you make a bot hallucinate?

a very similar problem exists in making genius bots.

Just as a drawing of a pipe is not a real pipe, a video of bigfoot is not a real bigfoot.

the very average and the very exceptional mind both have trouble with this concept.

one because they have not thought of it, and the other because they think of it constantly.

Schizophrenics have trouble knowing what's real, and knowing how to know what's real.

So they invent epistemological methods like
            >disprove this thing or I will assume it's real
            >prove this thing and I will believe it's real
the error of both is a lack of information

The problem with demanding people disprove every stupid idea that enters your head is that you then find reasons to doubt their disproof. These doubts strengthen your own conviction in a wrong belief, and the wrong belief persists.

                Anonymous

the other problem is most people aren't interested in disproving false beliefs for crazy people. Because crazy people lash out violently when you do what they demand and disprove their delusions.

Not him, but there is no absence of evidence. If you're not stupid and know what you're looking for, you sift through the bullshit. It's not like believing in bigfoot means you believe in every video or story.

we simply have different ideas of what constitutes evidence.

schizophrenics and NPC's can't trust their own senses so they trust others. But then they're faced with the problem of judging whom to trust.

the problem with sasquatch is its believers really like to muddy the waters by believing every, EVERY single bull-shit hoax story and blurry video so if he is out there, they are so far off the mark with their preconceived notions that he could fricking wave at them and they'd think it was a hobo
                >is that bigfoot?
                >no, he can't phase through trees and he has no super strength. he should be throwing that ponderosa at us.
                >i'm pretty sure it's bigfoot.
                >look dude, that looks NOTHING like the PGF video, it is not fricking bigfoot. We already established that the PGF video was real because there's no way they made a costume that realistic for a blurry video.
                >dude, quick, get your camera
                >Dude, DUDE, he was wearing a fricking coat. Bigfoot doesn't wear clothes. None of the eyewitness accounts said he wore clothes.

                >believers really like to muddy the waters by believing every, EVERY single bull-shit hoax story

                100% bullshit.

I, and many other people, use a probability factor for any and everything anyone claims to observe. Factors such as who the reporter is, their experience and any expertise, the probability of deception, the observation made, the conditions during the observation, corroborating evidence from other observers, and technological evidence. The probability that sasquatch is a real primate is overwhelming, and its based on the observers and the evidence, in film and footprints, that those observers have presented throughout the years.

People, including "scientists", called bullshit on the existence of giant squid, despite the evidence of sucker marks left on whales, and lo and behold all the contrarians and idiots in "science" were proven wrong due to film of said squid. The PGF film demonstrated the same over 50 years ago, and yet idiots are still trying to deny it to this day.

                Anonymous

The PGF film is most likely fake. Like I said you fricks will believe blatant hoaxes like you would believe the giant squid surfaced, attacked ships, and had a mouth full of giant needle teeth (the accounts were too detailed!) discrediting everything you say and do resulting in you being off the mark so your vindication will also make a mockery of you.

                This is actually very likely:
                >Bigfoot found. DNA testing reveals he's human.
                >Bigfoot is also fluent in english and wants to be let go.
                >Listen man that's not bigfoot, bigfoot can throw trees that blurry video was just too convincing. This is a whole new species!

                >The PGF film is most likely fake.
                No, it's not.

As a skeptic, I would argue that the subject would share the same visual characteristics of your typical late 60's costume, but it doesn't. As a skeptic, I would argue that it should share the same arm length to leg length ratio as a typical man in a costume, but it doesn't. As a skeptic I would argue that the subject would share the same walking gait as a man in a costume, but it doesn't. As a skeptic, I would argue that the costume would have been found, but it hasn't. As a skeptic, I would argue that the actor would have revealed himself, but no credible individual has ever emerged. As a skeptic, I would argue that Bob Gimlin's story would have changed repeatedly over the years, but it hasn't. As a skeptic, I would argue that there is legitimate evidence demonstrating that the film was a hoax, but no such evidence exists. None of the evidence supports a hoax. None of the evidence supports a costume.

When the evidence doesn't support a hypothesis but contributes to its falsification, then the hypothesis is wrong, regardless if you like it or not.

Can't. Prints have been discovered and cast from Georgia, California, Washington, Oregon, and all over the U.S. that all share the same anatomical profiles. A chinese dude found and cast one in China, too, which demonstrates the species exists on more than just the north American continent.

A footprint “cast” (sculpture) is the easiest thing to fake and the prerequisite to faking the footprint itself. A well done fake with wrinkles, still a fake. Consistently find tracks and hair that dont turn out to be fake maybe - no one has pulled this off. They just have likely fake casts. The real evidence is always hidden to minimize the chances of the hoax being busted. Its not real without remains. Animals die. Fricking everything eats dead animals and we still find corpses. Even dead humans, which care for their dead like they’re just a little sick.

    Aquatic ape hypothesis

      >Aquatic ape hypothesis
      Haven't heard of that one.

Of the great apes, however, it seems that only humans and sasquatch are capable of swimming. None of the other great apes swim in the wild, though chimps can apparently be taught how to swim.

aquatic ape hypothesis is iirc the idea that humans evolved to adapt to aquatic life instead of going directly from arboreal to terrestrial

          >Hardy suggested that we during the evolution have spent a considerable time on the coastlines and adapted to a semi-aquatic environment, not on the hot dry savannah or in the forest with the other primates.

i think humans just developed aquatic adaptations because early settlements were always near a source of fresh water, so being able to swim was advantageous

              >early settlements were always near a source of fresh water, so being able to swim was advantageous

True. Did those settlements expand from the coast though, as that theory would suggest?

              >Hardy suggested that we during the evolution have spent a considerable time on the coastlines and adapted to a semi-aquatic environment, not on the hot dry savannah or in the forest with the other primates.

              https://theaquaticape.org/human-evolution/aat/

I can see how primates would seperate in search of competition free resources, and once found, would adapt to maximize the ability to harvest those resources.

                >I can see how primates would seperate

I'm convinced that it's going to one day be discovered and accepted that hominid like species co-evolved together rather than one at a time as it is currently thought. These co-evolved hominids eventually competed with each other for territory and resources and basically killed each other off until only homosapiens remained en mass.

I've heard interviews from Bob Gimlin from back in the 70's all the way up to the 2000's, and his story never changes no matter what kind of questions people ask. That's one of the key elements of truth due to the fact that people can't remember all the lies they tell, but they can always remember the truth because it actually happened.

      >why kids get abducted by them

Interestingly enough, I bet some, and I do mean SOME, of the kids that get snatched up are snatched up by younger sasquatch, or females, that view our kids much in the same way we view baby animals. Our kids love puppies, kittens, and pretty much any baby animal, and bring them home, and I bet young sasquatch do the same. I bet when the younger sasquatch bring the human back "home", the adults tell them "no, you can't keep it, put it back", or they die to exposure / starvation, or worse yet, they get eaten by the adults.

Here's a case that happened in North Carolina where a small kid went missing for 3 days before being found, and when he was found, he told his family that a "bear" kept him warm. This took place during the 3rd week in January....well into the hibernation season of bears.

The evidence seems to demonstrate that sasquatch don't view humans as a primary food source, but in times of scarcity, like winter, they could view humans, and especially kids, as easy prey.

        >times of scarcity, like winter, they could view humans, and especially kids, as easy prey.

This is what happens with tigers, lions, and even chimps from time to time. Once they prey on humans, then it becomes a go to food source.

    Primate social structures.

    >Humans
Social. Communities consist of family units.
    >Chimpanzees
Social. Communities fairly similar to humans.
    >Gorilla
Semi-social. Exist in male dominated family groups and females from outside the families.
    >Orangutan
Solitary. Males live alone in a territory. Females seek out males for reproduction and raise their young alone.
    >Sasquatch
Largely unknown. Believed to exist in semi-social structures similar to gorillas.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of social structure? Communities seem to be more successful, but also have a greater negative impact on resource use. The semi-social structure seems provide a group advantage without the excess reliance on resources. The solitary structure seems to put the less stress on resources while sacrificing group advantages.

      >Largely unknown
From what I've been able to piece together after listening to tons of accounts, they form small family groups consisting of a male, a female, and their children (up to like 3 or 4 kids, maybe more). The group stays together until the male children reach a certain age. Those then go off and sometimes form bans until they get big enough and leave to make their own family units. Now don't know if young females go off like males, but they might just stay with their family group until a roaming male picks them up. I have heard of lone adult females though, sometimes with babies but no male (could be what patty was), but there's definitely more lone fully grown males- they probably never found mates.

        Anonymous

Seems fairly similar to Orangutans. Gorillas can live around 40 years and take about 10 years to reach breeding age. Sasquatch probably have similar lifespans and take about as long to reach maturity. I imagine that's one of the reasons their numbers are low, and why it would take them a long time to recover due to disease, hunting, or habitat loss.

Why would a primate develop bipedal locomotion while maintaining long arms the way sasquatch do? Do they live in trees and walk as a quadraped when they are young before transitioning to bipedal locomotion when older? Do the long arms allow for quadrapedal locomotion for stealth for hunting?

Wish we could capture one and study it to learn more about the anatomy.

      Anonymous

Some witnesses claim to see them move quadrupedally over short distances.

        Anonymous

I would think that might be a compromise evolution made in the species? 4 limbs moving with coordination is faster than 2 legs, and even crocs and gators can outrun dogs and horses in short spurts. Maybe the long arms allow for fast bursts of quadrapedic locomotion that could render an advantage for hunting? Maybe they kept their long arms for hunting purposes while humans sacrificed quadrapedic locomotion in favor of brains and intelligence that allowed us to design tools to replace that locomotion ability.

This Doc gives a really interesting look as to how different early primate species developed and how they evolved into becoming bipedal ground walking animals and how some evolved niche characteristics that helped the compete or put perform other species causing some to go extinct or cross breed into what humans eventually became.

      Anonymous

Nice. Kind of odd how humans have developed and adapted our technology to increase hunting, farming, and environment control over thousands of years, and yet our primate kin operate pretty much the same. I'd think that chimps would be using spears for hunting now, at the least, or ambush prey from above with rocks, but they've seemingly made no further adaptations to their environment.

        Anonymous

        What are you talking about?
Orangutan build structures and use tools to get food. Not to mention they have a verbal language passed down from mother to children that changes over distance into regional dialects.
That being said, a big driving factor that lead Hominids to be hominids is that they were from a jungle like monkeys and a shift in the local climate lead the forests to start thinning out into Savannah, which promotes popping up on your hind legs to look around for lions and predators.
The ones who could stand up taller and longer went on to raise more lanklet moneys until pelvises started to turn and the opposable digit straitened out for better balance and locomotion.
Then, with the hands free in this new bipedal gait they were free to make tools, and carry things. One of the important things you can carry is fire, which lets you make a camp every night for protection and cooking without needing the material to start fire from scratch. You just carry an ember in some moss and pine straw until you're ready to set up camp for the night. Then you use that ember to start a fire, and blamo. Then just take a hot coal the next morning, and the process continues.
Another way to think of it is that the great apes remained in the environments they evolved into. Hominids are the descendants of the apes who left those environments, and had to adapt to a new niche. One that happened to break the meta.

          >What are you talking about?
I guess intellectual evolution? Humans have developed and adapted so many new tools to complete tasks, and yet our primate kin seem to be stuck in a developmental rut.

Interesting how the arm length changes. The gibbon, like chimps, tangs and gorilla, has longer arms than the legs, and all are either aroboreal or quadrapeds. The sasquatch has arms that are almost the same length as the legs, which suggests a hybrid of quad and bipedal locomotion capabilities. The man has arms that are way shorter than the legs, which suggest an inferior ability to use bipedal locomotion.

Notice how the posture of the gibbon and sasquatch differs from the human, as both lean much further forward than the man, and neither lock out their legs when they walk. Interesting evolutionary impact on the anatomy imo.

I'd imagine that a shift to bipedal locomotion would allow for the advent of greater tool usage due to the ability to carry something in the hands. I'd also imagine that the ability to use tools would drive the intelligence to explore different ways to create and employ those tools.

Perhaps that's what drove humans to achieve what they have, and what limits our primate peers that lack bipedal locomotion capabilities.
