Painted Wolves

Could painted wolves have "domesticated" themselves like humans and bonobo chimps did? Their fur patterns are far more like what is seen in some domesticated dogs, rather than what other wild canids have, they're also far more social than other canids, similar to how bonobos are more social than chimps, or how humans were more social than our neanderthal cousins

Isn't that just the hyena's moronic cousin? Better to just domesticate em instead.

Hyenas are tall moronic mongooses larping as canids
African wild dogs are actual canids

        I refute your claim.

Not even close. Hyenas are Feliformia, not Canidae.

This is why taxonomy is a fake and gay pseudoscience. How can any logical person look at a hyena and not immediately identify it as being closely related to dogs.

Actually it's called an African wild dog or Cape hunting dog. It was always called one of those, frick this "painted" rebranding to give it a less "racist" name, or whatever the thought process is here.

        >frick this "painted" rebranding to give it a less "racist" name, or whatever the thought process is here.
Are you moronic. They call it painted, because look like they are dipped in paint. It's literal scientific name "Lycaon Pictus" translates to "Painted Wolf".

Except that's how the animal has always looked, and yet it's only been commonly called that starting very recently.

I assumed part of the intent was to stop calling them dogs. “Wild” feral dogs are a big problem that you don’t want people to associate with the endangered animal that doesn’t even breed with dogs. Better to call them something that shitty translations won’t confuse with the animal people want and are encouraged to kill on sight.

Feral dogs are functionally the same. there's just way more of them closer to people, and africants don't into rabies vaccines, fences, leashes, or picking up trash.

It's too good an idea to have not been tried, right? Distinctive coats, expressive faces and nature. Hell, now I kinda want one.
