OOGA BOOGA

Bonobos are the second most intelligent animal on earth besides humans. They have been observed making hand axes, wooden spears, and even a form of verbal language

Bonobos are cool, but way over-hyped, their intelligence is little higher, if at all, than a chimpanzee, which still probably lands them both a joint silver medal. They are not 'peaceful,' the females drive out the males to live more loner lives, they use violence to accomplish this, they just are fewer in number and have not been recorded committing war crimes like their chimpy brethren. They also exhibit cannibalism: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2YsJinX02w

I read a recent quote by Frans de Waal, and while he portrays bonobos very flowery, he did drop one great summary in a recent essay.

"But it’s true that bonobos occasionally fight. In fact, their extensive sexual activity would make no sense if their society were free of social tensions. The main purpose of this activity is to keep the peace."

I do think they fight more, hell I've seen them fight over food in zoo videos. I wish they were studied and documented as much, and as seriously, as chimpanzees.

HELL YEAH chimps are fucking stupid. Orangutans teach their young and have medium emotional intelligence with lower cognition (30 IQ). Gorillas have high emotional intelligence with low cognition (29 IQ). And Bonobos have high cognition and high emotional intelligence (45 IQ). Chimps have low cognition and low emotional intelligence (27 IQ)

I know what you mean. They're a very 'gracile' rather than 'robust' form, maybe there's an analogy to Hom Sap and the likes of the Neanderthals there?

A parrot is the only animal that we know of ever asking an existential question, apes taught to speak sign language only learn to do it for treats, just look at the people who work with chimps and how demoralized they have become realizing how unintelligent they really are.

You know where the term "to parrot" comes from?

Parrots are notorious for speaking without understanding. Their instinct is to mimic the songs of other birds to attract mates. And humans are notorious for teaching animals things and then claiming the animal made it up.

Sue savage also beat kanzi and kept him in terrible conditions, while misfeeding him. He did learn a lot of words, but her methods & practices were dubious at best.

My bad, I totally misremembered several details. She didn't expressly beat them, there are multiple claims she mistreated and abused staff + the apes though. My sources (timestamped):

            ?t=2145
            https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn22281-ape-researcher-suspended-amid-welfare-concerns/

As for if it's all true, I really don't know. I can't imagine people making up claims against her for no reason, but she's apparently in a bunch of legal battles with the Ape Cognition & Conservation Initiative, which houses both kanzi and Teco now.

They also have sex across age differences & with the same sex. It's not like they never fight, but they resolve fights & disagreements with sex most of the time.

Also the most famous bonobo, Kanzi, is actually already posted on this board - multiple times even!

I wonder what our species would look like, if it evolved from the bonobo instead. Maybe sex would play a central role in society, and what we consider degenerate today would be everyday activities then

instead of Sahelanthropus Tchadensis evolving the Homo and Pan genus it instead only evolves the Pan genus. Bonobos become the dominate primate and semi-bipedalism become full bipedalism due to the fact it frees up the hands and the grip on the hands lessens as it walks more on the ground (inspiration from Teco) eventually because they use the tools they use nowadays they end up eating more meat, thus larger brain size. Creating Pan Parvusvir a Homo Ergaster like species that cannot climb trees however it does still have standard prehensile toes. The age of consent in bonobo society is 14... because that is the age of sexual maturity. The bonobos get called "clay finders" by the semi-cognitive chimps that also evolved from this mess, because the bonobos dig dirt to niff out clay in order to build houses and make spearheads from the clay.

            No,
I meant what if the Bonobo evolved to our level of society and technology, instead of us. If we went extinct, and the bonobo took our position on the evolutionary tree.
Do you understand? If they had the same tech and society that we had today.
I was wondering what that might look like, how they'd structure their lives.
Also, stone age primitive tribes did not possess the knowledge to the concept of age of consent, it is something invented in the past 70 years and entirely artificial in the sense that it didn't exist previously, not in the past 100.000 years that our specoes exists, and no, bonobos never had and would never have an age of consent as cavemen, or did you think they'd be a promiscuous degenerate species, which meant they will lower the age of consent by ONE ENTIRE YEAR?! ARE YOU AWARE THAT IN EUROPE THE AOC IS 15 YEARS OLD, HOW THE FUCK DID YOU IMAGINE BONOBOS WOULD BE 1 ENTIRE YEAR MORE DEGENERATE THAN OUR HYPER AGGRESSIVE GORILLA SPECIES YOU PSEUDO-INTELLECTUAL RETARD

Humans didn't evolve from any living ape species.
And arguably sex has always played a huge role in culture.
