No one knows what kind of animal is Seth based upon. Could it be a species that we know nothing about and it is now extinct?

        >Egyptologist Ken Moss[8] suggested the Set animal is in fact the Saluki: It is one of the oldest breeds of domesticated dog, has a curved snout, and nearly identical body to the hieroglyph, and is native to the region; when the Saluki runs, its ears and tail become vertical. Further it was historic practice and remains common throughout the Levant to crop ears of hunting dogs. The Saluki is also depicted in hieroglyphs with no ostensible connection to Set, suggesting it was well known to ancient Egyptian people.[8]

Loki turned himself into a mare, seduced a stallion so that the æsir wouldn't loose a bet with it's owner, got pregnant from that, carried to term and gave brith (still in mare form) to the 8-legged horse, Sleipinr. Also once turned himself into Thor's maid-of-honour (more on that later), and liked to disguise himself as a female jotunn.
Odin actively practises woman's magics, and they in fact seem to be his go-to magics.
Thor once cross-dressed and married himself off to a jotunn king, with Loki as his maid-of-honour. TBF it was a ploy to recover Mjölnir so he could kill said jotunn king and his court, so less gay shit and more Loony-Toons shit.

              1) Loki was (possibly, we know very little about the enigmatic fricker for sure) a guile hero, using wits to outsmart foes in his role as protector of the home. May have also been co-opted into a Jesus figure, or Satan figure, or both.
              2) How could you forget about Tyr? After Thor he's easily the best of the Norse gods from a human perspective.
              3) All of the æsir and vanir were to be venerated, it was the jotunn who were unworthy of such.

Transvestism in mythology is not about being LGBT but about deceiving other gods or humans. Loki is a master deceiver by transforming into multiple beings but the ones with which he tricks people or gods are female in nature like the mare that you mentioned or the witch that refused to cry Baldur's death making his recovery from Hel impossible.

Polytheistic gods were just modeled after various crazy kings, chieftains, and shamans throughout history, who claimed to be gods on earth or speaking to the spirits of nature. Religion is basically the legal arm of a primitive human society and the ruling class is notoriously degenerate because they have the free time to be degenerate. Monotheism is what happens when one king centralizes all control. Other gods have to go and everyone needs to worship the god of the one true king.

In primitive egyptian society I can bet you that rulers or at least religious chiefs wore animal masks, starting all their chimeric iconography.

I don't want to ackshually you guys, but please be aware that all the stories coming from the Prose Edda were compiled and / or written during a period of profound christianization by a scholar from Iceland that probably had a clear agenda in mind while doing so, namely, unifying the kingdoms around the baltic sea into a coherent cultural sphere. It's myth retold and altered hundreds of years after the actual religion died out. If you want to actually talk about the norse gods as the actual norse understood them, you should refer to the Poetic Edda and Codex Regius, where the characterization of every god changes substantially.

        Also this,

        1) Loki was (possibly, we know very little about the enigmatic fricker for sure) a guile hero, using wits to outsmart foes in his role as protector of the home. May have also been co-opted into a Jesus figure, or Satan figure, or both.
        2) How could you forget about Tyr? After Thor he's easily the best of the Norse gods from a human perspective.
        3) All of the æsir and vanir were to be venerated, it was the jotunn who were unworthy of such.

Loki might have been intended to be understood as a sort of messianic figure that was crucial in ending the age of the old gods and the beginning of good 'ol christianity in the region.
