Neutering dogs

So I just got a male puppy - first time I've owned one as the sole person taking care of one, although I grew up with dogs and lived with my parents when they got a puppy which I raised 90% of the time. He's 3 months old now, so I have some time, I guess.

What's the redpill on neutering? The breed (wheaten terrier) is not known for aggression, but I've only raised neutered males before. I don't plan on breeding him, but not sure if neutering is really the best way.

    You don't need to if
    >you are a responsible owner
    >your dog is not inbred
Otherwise skip the neuter part and head straight for euthanasia.

    Vet here.

The current trend in the US is neutering a little later - think 9-18 months - to allow for skeletal maturity. We encourage neutering because it allows prevention of testicular cancer, decreases prostate problems, and can help with some behavioral issues. Pet overpopulation is also a big problem in the US. Intact male dogs are also more prone to being hit by cars because they smell bitches in heat and break out to get to them.

But, Europe does things differently. The majority of their dogs are intact.

Most vets you are going to go to are going to recommend neutering. Personally, I don't think it matters too much if you're a responsible dog owner. But I also don't think most dog owners are responsible, so my default recommendation is also to get him snipped.

There aren't really good arguments against neutering at some point, apart from the fact that it is a surgery.

Neutered dogs have higher rates of “put your dog down at 9” cancers.

Not really. There are some studies that show an increased risk, but there also some that don't. Vet med is plagued by underpowered studies. What we do know is spayed and neutered dogs tend to live longer in general. So even if they're getting more cancer, they may be getting more cancer because they're living longer.

Honestly I don't think it matters much for male dogs one way or another, and I'd recommend waiting until skeletal maturity either way.

What we know is most dog owners are retards and get their intact dogs killed earlier. Lifespans in more intact, but also more white euro countries don’t line up with those burger studies.

Ffs the “intact dogs all get mammary cancer!!!” studies are now coming under scrutiny and it’s slowly turning out to be a breed specific issue, meaning it can be bred out.

The age of onset for a spay associated cancer like hemangiosarcoma is usually well below the average lifespan m8o. hormones, it turn out, mediate cell growth, the immune system, and thyroid activity. intact males for example are more prone to infectious disease as they age and need it treated ASAP but it’s the opposite for females. neutered males of all species live slightly longer and it’s the opposite for females. neutered males are more prone to fear aggression, but intact females are more likely to start fights. in general…

… dogs can’t consent to a major surgery with no clear all around benefits. its a grab bag of pros and cons that humans have a hard time deciding for themselves. therefore it shouldn’t be done unless it will FOR SURE save, not maybe extend, their life, not maybe it will help if their owner doesnt do their part, maybe they will get bone cancer.

If someone cant keep an intact dog from roaming, fighting, and fucking they shouldnt have a dog period. Im pretty sure this hard filet is why norway’s dog bite rate is 25% of the US’s. Legally mandated balls + laws demanding containment and punishing uncontrolled breeding = retards can’t manage dogs without getting fucked by the courts = more retards don’t bother owning dogs.

Listen to your vet and your gut. Most of the posters itt are Men who project their own feelings on their own balls onto their dogs balls.

Dogs can be fine with/without their balls but if you wanna make a decision then go to a vet. Go to a few. Don't come on a Chinese fish farming forum for genuine advice.

Strange how it's okay to lop off a dog's nuts because "obviously they don't care", but then consent for sex, something they ask for, suddenly requires the dog to swear on a bible and testify in plain English before a judge.

In the US you're sworn in to testify, and presumably an English fluent dog would be able to do so. There's nothing preventing it from being attempted. If you were on trial for animal abuse then such testimony may break the prosecution's reasoning.
It wasn't serious though. I'm aware that even if a dog did that, antizoos would move the goal posts because it's not really about the animal for them. It's about the sexual control of others.

We neutered our Olde English bulldog at a year and a half. Wouldn't stop marking in family's homes and wouldn't stop humping other dogs/young nephews. Snipped and stopped humping, but now he's super active and playful which is great, except he's a bulldog and basically dies after 20 minutes of activity.
Also my first dog. He's almost 2 now. Don't know if we did the right thing by neutering him, or if we should have trained him earlier/better

Most of us have female dogs and don’t want our friends dying of bone/blood vessel cancer or don’t believe western hypocrisy

Animals can’t consent to the removal of functional organs. It’s already illegal in norway and only shitty owners of shitty breeds have any problems. In my opinion only highly dysgenic breeds should be sterilized, ie: pitbulls, so they don’t ruin anything else.

    Not OP.
Can I lie to the humane society and say I'm going to take the adoptee to a private vet to neuter it?
Would they be willing to wait until it's 2 years old for me to "do" the process?
If they call me up a few weeks or months later, would they believe me if I said the dog got run over?

Wheatens will get very shitty coats after neutering. In a male dog, I wouldn't castrate unless the dog is hypersexual, aggressive or has other health issues that can be fixed by snipping, like prostate problems.

basically only reason neuter your dog if he's a little horny/agressive shid. Shelter/street dogs or mental illnesses come to mind. Other than that keep his cherries intact.

      >if he's a little horny
Well, he's 3 months old, and he has a little travel pillow that he humps for really long periods of time--minutes--however, he is easy to train: he only humped my leg once, and hasn't humped anything else since I gave him the pillow. Also, it has been easy, so far, to get him to stop puppy-biting on my ankles, and I'm working on getting him to not mouth my hands, but at least he's not biting as hard as he was initially.

Not a 'little' horny, a little horny shid. Lemme rephrase that; Horny to the point where training has failed and he's a humping menace. Your dog sounds like normal puppy antics, I wouldn't be concerned.

aggressive is a training issue first and a genetics issue second. Neutering won’t do shit.

Horny can be relieved in a controlled way that helps obedience. Even with females. My husky is very good with recall and attentiveness for a few months after her heat cycle.

I resorted to snipping a Rhodesian ridgeback mixed street dog mutt I brought home from turkey. Didn't fix all the problems caused by a life as a dog in a Muslim country, but it did help with how defensive he was towards strangers.

There's some fantastic bitter apple spray, you can just spray it on the back of your hands and if he gets nippy twist you hand so he's forced to taste it.
I used it to train my husky not to nip.

Well socialized and trained intact dogs are less aggressive because they experience less fear and anxiety

Intact dogs have lower rates of hard to treat cancers and joint disorders and can live longer

Untrained, neglected intact dogs are more aggressive and will roam and die early. This is how it turns out for most dog owners because the average american has an IQ of 97.

Not a joke. Literally what we do rather than try and get arbitrary dogs to mate on just the right day, when the male might be a bit too big not to injure the female a bit. What is a myth is needing a bitch in heat or a stud nearby for AI to even happen. No, we do that because otherwise the dogs wont mate with each other and keep trying to fuck us.

              Anonymous

Dogs that have lost all will or ability to procreate naturally shouldn't have offspring. They either lost too much instinct or they are wrecks. Point in case is the English bulldog where a natural mating is simply impossible because of their build. I can only get behind AI if it's for breeding from a sire from the other side of the world, otherwise it's downright ridiculous.

A female dog will gladly reject a stud arbitrarily or if she feels he is too closely related to her. Show and yes, working dog breeders don’t benefit from that. Dogs want general purpose genetic fitness, not perfected herding instincts. Too bad for them we don’t give them that choice.

What's a joke is your understanding of the world. Dogs have almost no agency over their reproduction. We control every aspect of their life. If it makes 1% more profit to have a male get jerked off by a careless intern and turkey basted into a restrained female, that's the way a business will do it.
