In a few years it is very unlikely that a dog will ever be older than me again. I am taking in this moment for all it's worth. A dog is older than me. Everything is right on gods earth.

    >Bobi has gone on to live a long, peaceful life. Costa said Bobi has never been chained or leashed, but instead is allowed to roam free in forests and farmland that surrounded Costa's family home. He has always eaten unseasoned human food, which Costa thinks has contributed to Bobi's longevity.
Confirms my suspicion: he eats real food and lives without much stress. Whatever genetic advantage he can manifest.

Makes sense. The quality standards are completely different for dogfood compared to human food. I wouldn't be surprised if literal tons of literal junk leftovers from human food production end up in dogfood which might even be spoiled in ways.

I wish they were more specific about what "human food" is. I don't know what people eat in Poortugal

        Good question.
        >Generally speaking, typical Portuguese home-cooked food revolves around proteins such as pork, chicken and fish, legumes, vegetables (particularly leafy greens used in stews and soups which we explore further below, or simple preparations which will have them boiled or steamed), bread, cheese, and cold cuts (including artisanal and regional cured meats and other pork products of a more industrial nature). Our diet is part Mediterranean (explaining the expansive use of olive oil for seasoning and cooking), and part Atlantic, which translates into cooking with lots of fresh fish but also cured species like salted cod, aka bacalhau.

I assume that the dog eats pork and seafood and some cooked veggies.

Exceptional longevity like this is entirely up to genetics.

A bit of white on the belly but seemingly none on his muzzle, which is interesting. Every old dog I've ever seen goes white in the face first. Is facial whitening a sign of DNA damage??? They should fund a lab t research this.
