since birds aren't using the internet and you are,

the simplest conclusion is that neuron density doesn't corelate with intelligence.

We could use genetic engineering to transfer this trait to smaller brained animals such as dogs to give them superhuman intelligence, therefore creating something superior to man. If we can do that to dogs, we can also give them raccoon hands, and not worry about all the africa-era adaptations that were required for us to obtain greatness from scratch.

Despite their density birds still don't have as many neurons as us.

Hands are not needed. We need to create a caste of purely intellectual beings to manage society as humans degenerate into stupid labor apes. They don't have to manufacture or use tools, they just need to have the charisma and intelligence to direct less intelligent animals to do it for them.

we're already kind of like this. lower classes are often more physically capable, but the beauty and intellect of the upper crust of society creates admiration and loyalty among them.

a ruling species of highly intelligent, beautiful canines unconcerned with any human affairs but making the society they use to support themselves as efficient, enduring, and massive as possible would bring humanity to its peak. the canine is already a good starting point due to their feminine grace, masculine power, and cooperative tendencies. they would not have the same crippling biases as humans due to being a different species, nor would mixing with the slave race degenerate them and rob humanity of its direction. they would also provide a truly better life for their slaves and conspecifics than an AI, due to being mammals and having a better understanding of mammalian needs without the massive chance of generating warped philosophies that inorganics are known for. we would only need to make them genetically incompatible with the base dog. they would be kings to endure for eons, so long as humanity was never smart enough to figure out that rebellion was possible. perhaps it could be prevented by surrounding them with superhuman robot guards.

Probably, THEY SHOULD FIX THEIR OWN SHIT BEFORE HUMANITY GETS TO THE POINT WHERE INDIVIDUALS CAN UNILATERALLY END THE PLANET BY COBBLING TOGETHER WEAPONS FROM THE SCRAPS AROUND THEM

the smartest birds have the brain the size of a cat's and they are as smart as the smartest mammals with a brain many times larger.

Imagine a bird with the brain as big as a human's

        >they are as smart as the smartest mammals with a brain many times larger.
humans are so much smarter than any of them there's no competition any more. Other animals are basically just plants compared to humans.

What humans have is neat tricks that require a massive amount of brain matter to pull off like voluntary hallucination of things that don't and can't exist, abstract language, superior planning skills, etc. Most of what makes you more than a talking ape is a well understood piece of the brain that someone could destroy to reduce you to the cognitive level of a loquacious chimp. Everything from rats up still has self awareness, emotions, and willpower so you could call them "basically people" just crippled at society building and universe-unraveling technology. They are like humans but they forget what they were doing at step 1 of making a pointy stick, if they ever get far enough to want to make a pointy stick without forgetting why they would even start to think of wanting one.

none of this changes the fact that humans are so far above other animals in intelligence that we have not way to measure the difference.

we just say things like, "they use sticks as tools," or "they haven't invented fire yet."
because the only comparison we can make is to humans a couple million years ago.

It's not a relevant difference except with regards to using them as a labor force. A human is more valuable economically but a housecat still has its personhood and I would rather have the dumb housecat that forgets why it walked into the room every time than an intelligent but economically useless human. The cat's "soul" is of equal social value to the useless, non-cooperative human in filling my need for companionship and the cat may even contribute to society somewhat.

A plant does pretty much nothing. It has no nervous system.

The average human aren’t that intelligent, barely above chimp levels. Some even lower than that. Most rely on society to do intelligent things for them whilst they go about daily lives in a semi conscious state

humans are way more intelligent than chimps just in terms of general intelligence aka automatic problem solving ability. the fact that we can receive "programming" on how to operate intelligently and follow it accurately for years puts us way above all other animals that scratch their head if they have to do something that doesn't come naturally to them.

if any other animal has this ability to not only receive instructions on how to use its brain, but even give them to itself, it's probably dolphins or orcas. theoretically they could speak in moving 3d imagery.

The term you're both looking for is "automatons" in the Descartes sense.

Descartes was not so covertly trying to philosophize the biblical implication that only man has a “divine spark” into reality. Today, we know his nonsense is as likely as humans being flesh AIs that are preprogrammed to say they think otherwise, and some humans appear to be soulless and below an individual humble rat, who in virtue and value could be more deserving of a place in heaven.

              >some humans appear to be soulless
This is due to varying levels of consciousness which varies not only upon person but also time of day, current task, geographical location, etc. However, some "people" lack the ability to achieve a non-autonomous level of consciousness. Descartes minus the Christcuckery is delightfully insightful - no offense intended.

and yet i have seen animals display more cumulative clear signs of consciousness in a day than humans display in a week. i doubt the uniqueness of man. it seems that the purpose of evolving higher intelligence is actually to engage in brief periods of complex self-programming (or receiving dictated programming via abstract language) followed by protracted periods of running on autopilot until interrupted by a sufficiently bad failure that the program is unable to account for.

you could then figure that a less intelligent being, unable to develop complex and lengthy programs, and unable to store them without significant time decay, would enter a conscious state more often to evaluate their course of action. a more intelligent being, having developed much better programming, would be "in the zone" and acting correctly for the situation without thought.

intelligent beings that get stuck in the self-programming and conscious evaluation phase can be considered broken, disordered, or atavistic, because such behavior is an inefficiency and leads to neuroticism and the development of goals outside of the natural order of survival and propagation. which is to say the soul is a flaw, a holdover from an era of less intelligence. the longer a species holds on to intelligence, the more it will use it to avoid being conscious as there is no benefit to being in that state where irrationality and errors are most likely to be introduced into the mind's routines.

People with repetitive jobs or lives that are way easier than their brains can handle do actually go full NPC mode, ie: retail and assembly line workers, do-nothing middle managers and social media "professionals", unless they have something else in their life that keeps challenging them. Below a certain level of adversity people just... stop thinking. Dumb ass dogs have more cause to think every day because just pulling open a cracked door is kind of a feat for them.
                >woof woof maybe it's a push door?
