What would they eat? Wouldn't they just eat pets?

They naturally eat deer, boar, hares and rabbits with the occasional fox or badger

Are those all in Scotland? Hares and rabbits I get and didn't think of, but I thought the British Isles had over hunted and were pretty absent of fauna much larger than a rabbit.

They all are, yes. "Large" herbivores are more common in the British isles than large carnivores are since it's easier to get public support for the protection of herbivores than carnivores that make people go "Bu-But But my sheep!". Scotland actually has 5 species of deer present only two of which are native (perhaps arguably 3). An absence of predators aside from the occasional hunter means that Scotlands deer population has rapidly increased in recent years. Boar and feral pigs too have increased to the extent that some people are already calling for measures to curb the swine population.

            >But my sheep!"
Eesh, forgot about the sheep, too.
But that would be the same issue as pets if lynx were killing them.
Still, my brain just wasn't working on Scottish biome.

            lemme mail you something

I think they want lynx, tho.
Like, thats what the thread is about.
            Checked, tho.

It's a shame because Scotland should naturally be a temperate rainforest but centuries of grazing by livestock have taken it's toll

they did kill the bison, continuously. they would drive them off cliffs in seasonal hunts.

apparently we are supposed to respect this because constantly killing things in stressful and painful ways is based and living in harmony with nature and driving species to extinction to replace them with ones that live much happier lives before dying instantly is evil.

    Lol no

    >Not even the majority of the world population
    >it should be assumed that because humans are predators, all humans kill animals
The white man has successfully killed off more individual populations because of superior killing technology outpacing the reproduction rate, lately, but that just means he robbed himself of things to kill in the future while everyone else is racking up the numbers.

Reminder that the Scottish "highlands" are a completely artificial environment created by cattle and sheep grazing.

Yeah, it's funny how you see a picture of the highlands on the front page of reddit every day proclaiming how beautiful it is, when it's actually an ecological wasteland. We need to tell farmers to get to frick and rewild the whole place.

Just stop with planting all those goddamn spruce trees and start planting willows and oaks. Let the streams be meandering waters again held up by bever dams, and the land will heal naturally. Then you can release lynxes. Not before all that has happened.
I don't even understand why they don't do it honestly. Right now the land is trash. If you do it properly you can get cows free roaming, oak for wood, and most of it self-sustaining without effort. Just sit back chop down a tree once in a while and shoot a cow and you got your money.

    Not coming.

Meanwhile in Bavaria, one (1) killed livestock animal means one (1) wolf or otter has to be shot down.
