People here do hunt and eat them, but mostly just people that live in rural areas.

      >They don't taste like chicken – they taste like pork. Capybara are native to South America, where the meat is considered a delicacy.
      >Salt-cured capybara is consumed during Lent in Venezuela, where the popularity of the dish prompted the Vatican to declare that capybara isn't meat but fish.

          >the Vatican to declare that capybara isn't meat but fish.
          Fucking idiots.

in Poland during the Middle Ages, the Church declared that beaver tail is not meat. I mean, it's even covered in scales, it's obviously fish.
never underestimate the mental gymnastics people will go to in order to break the precepts of their religion.

            >covered in scales, it's obviously fish
scales denote serpent, which was before fish.

Can confirm, tastes like pork. Wasn’t anything special, bacon is better. People make a big deal in restaurants because it is something they are not used to but if it wasn’t labeled as capybara people wouldn’t care enough to justify the trouble of getting the meat for commercial use.

alright, but how do capys taste when they're cured and smoked then?
