Foxes are successful, but those that lives in urban environment live the worst hellish lives imaginable. Expected life span for a London fox is less than 3 years old, and there hasn't been a single autopsy of one that didnt reveal multiple fractures and bone breaks and usually all legs. Their hearing is so fine a car hitting a bump 200 meter away is like an artillery barrage to us.
They succeed by being intelligent and out breeding their death rate.

what did rats mean by this

rats can't survive traveling into Alberta from 3 directions due to the Rockies, Badlands and general inhospitable boreal forest, which means the only direction they could migrate from is the east, ie. traveling across the entire continent. By the time that happened, the provincial government realized they were in a position to just straight up prevent rats establishing a permanent population, so they did

      Anonymous

      that is cool,

also i agree that dogs and cats are highly succesfull, not only are there a lot of them, they evolved into a position that they get feeded and sheltered by another race.

      >Prehistoric humans were successful, but those that lived in natural environments live the worst hellish lives imaginable. Expected life span for a “hunter-gatherer” was less than 25 years old, and there hasn't been a single fossil of one that didnt reveal multiple fractures and bone breaks and usually all legs. Their biological adoptions and absolute lack of natural weaponry made prehistoric humans extremely vulnerable to predation (even by mesopredators like foxes). They succeed by having livestock-like intelligence and sexual adoptions for out breeding their death rate.

is also right, it's a sad state of affair for a beautiful, intelligent mammal to find itself stuck in.
Iirc, if you are in London and see a fox, there is a solid 50% chance it's dead within 6 months. That's no life for a cute foxerino, if you ask me.
        Pic unrelated.

They didn't though. Even if you take the most extreme life expectancy at birth it has nothing to do with the longevity and health of people that grow into adults. Prehistoric humans were taller and healthier than agricultural humans and regularly hunted fauna much larger them including predators as an initiation rite, remnants of which persisted into recent times if you read about bear ceremonialism in the northern hemisphere.
