>It thought you were a seal! >Well you were in its territory. >sharks dont even like the taste of people

>It thought you were a seal!
>Well you were in its territory
>sharks don’t even like the taste of people
>it was scared
>well you shouldn’t have eaten the fish that this species of shark doesn’t even predate on
>the metal in your kayak tricked him into thinking that he should flip over your boat and bite your leg off
>the diver shouldnt have been there. How would you like it if someone went into your bedroom moving your stuff around?

When will it ever end? All of this bullshit science coming from documentarians and conservationists to try and protect the pitbull of the sea. What’s worse is that they’re now encouraging young impressionable idiots to swim with them unprotected by cages because sharks apparently stopped being dangerous with the advent of the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet in the 90s. This has to be up there with one of the most infuriating animal topics for me personally, it drives me fricking insane and it is unironically dangerous.

    Redpill me on saltwater crocodiles
I have no real reason for this, but I feel like I'm more scared of crocs then sharks
If I was swimming in the ocean and saw a great white, I can at least intellectualize it like "if this big guy attacks me, I at least know I'm not likely to be killed by it"

But what the frick do crocodiles do? I have no idea. I have absolutely no clue what this fricking dinosaur in front of me is likely to do.

      >But what the frick do crocodiles do? I have no idea. I have absolutely no clue what this fricking dinosaur in front of me is likely to do.
Well sharks usually ignore people, while a crocodile will sit outside a village learning the movement patterns of the villagers getting water before picking a spot to wait for some unfortunate fricker to come wash their clothes. They're the worst man eaters there are, they don't even need to be sick or starving or develop a taste for humans like man eating big cats, bears, etc

These frickers literally said "no" to extinction. They're evolved to hunt large mammals in Asia and migrated to Australia during the pleistocene when Australia still had megafauna, but then the megafauna went extinct there. Now usually when a big predator's prey dies out so does the predator, but saltwater crocs just decided to spend 50k years absolutely obliterating animals kangaroo-sized and smaller with a 3 tonne bite force until europeans reintroduced megafauna like buffalo and shit

    >>the diver shouldnt have been there.

That's literally the reason in many cases. It's always morons splashing around in a large sharks hunting area and most importantly most of the attack happen right around the time they prefer to hunt. Like webm related the dude decides to go swimming early in the morning, in an area well known for great whites and while there are fishermen baiting the water.

What I want to know is why are bull and tiger sharks considered to be more dangerous when great whites attack more people?

      Anonymous

      >great whites up there with pitbulls despite having a fraction of the exposure to people
yes they are extremely dangerous and will eat you. sharks have sight and smell. they see something that looks like a seal, yes. they smell something that is close enough to a mammal. they have no reason not to try to eat you, and they ARE trying to eat you, they are not curious. the fact that you smell like a mammal alone is enough for them. they take a bite and leave because you're small and they tend to do that with small prey.

that doesn't mean they should all die. it means you should, maybe, stop aimlessly and ignorantly fricking around in the ocean for no reason like a fricktard.

I never said they should die, it’s a matter of genuine scientific discourse being muddled by calls of anthropomorphism that is my issue. In regards to actual shark deaths being so low, they’re horrifically underreported for obvious reasons or the cause of death is attributed to another factor.

Great whites never eat people, I've never heard of a documented case. They always nibble then leave but that "nibble" can make you lose a leg and/or a significant amount of blood.

It's always out of curiosity, if they were really trying to eat you they'd strike you from below like a torpedo and you'd go flying into the air in their mouth like they do with seals. You'd never stand a chance. Great whites are the most intelligent of sharks, have the best senses and can see perfectly underwater as well as above.

the shark actually consumed a lot of the guy. Its extremely rare but does happen if the shark is hungry enough

I think that conservationists intentionally go out of there way to protect GWS in particular, and this is just one of the ways that it is accomplished. Concerning actual deaths, the whole “exploratory bite” is a total bullshit Disneyfication of events when that is their primary hunting mechanism. Sharks don’t just gulp seals down in one go and seals are still really dangerous, even for a grown white it can still get hurt.

The reason why people bleed out and aren’t being digested is because 9/10 you have hundreds, potentially thousands of people and a unified governmental department (coast guard) there to get you out of the water. Leave that same guy out on the water for five hours after being bitten and see how far that exploratory bite theory goes. They predate on us in the exact same manner as they do other large mammals.

They take a bite and leave because they usually don't finish eating the person. They don't bite their regular prey like seals and then leave it for 5 hours, they leave it for a few seconds. If they were biting people and leaving them in the same way they do with seals then the person still wouldn't have enough time to get out of the water before the shark comes in for a second bite. They're dangerous animals but they're not like crocodiles that will eat you without a second thought

The bite and leave is their strategy for large prey. Small prey gets gobbled up real quick

Bulls have higher testosterone and have a wider reach by being able to go into fresh water. I don't think people really consider tigers more dangerous.. but if they do it's because they eat anything

tiger sharks are so dangerous because they're such unfussy eaters. Great whites usually don't follow up an attack and eat the person because they mainly target high fat/oil content prey like seals or tuna or whatever, but while tiger sharks are comparatively much more docile if it does decide to take a bite its probably not going to stop just because you've got too many bones

I think you have misinterpreted what I’m saying as that is exactly the point my post makes. They’re dangerous alpha predators, and the leading documentarians and conservationists are putting the general public at risk by lying to them about the reality of sharks.

I agree, but you have to take into consideration that sharks aren't exclusive to a single place, that people can just avoid. People won't look at sharks the same way the look at lions, for example, because while we can avoid lions by just not going to Africa, we can't really avoid sharks, unless we literally stop going to the beach, which will never happen.

Has it though? Besides Chinks being disgusting ratmen who eat anything and everything for some vague magical reason I haven’t seen anything that directly links the debut of jaws with a global decline in shark numbers. Hell the Great White has been doing really well and in some parts of the world is becoming so abundant as to be considered a pest species. To me the Jaws argument is nothing but a Reddit-tier gotcha! Moment that has convieniently allowed leftist conservationists to avoid blaming Eastern big men when they are most definitely at fault for harming shark populations.

Did it make people more aware of how dangerous the sea is at a cultural level? I mean maybe, but fear of deep water wasn’t an advent to humanity in the 70s, we’re scared of it for good reason and the fact a shark will more than happily take a chunk out of you justifies the response
