    >The swim bladders of the Totoaba macdonaldi are being sold on the black market by cartel for profit which condemns a loss of a major food source for the vaquita. Continued illegal totoaba fishing is largely motivated by sales to the Chinese market, where it is used in traditional medicine, and results in uncontrolled bycatch of vaquitas
THEY CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT

Are there any even left at this point? People have been saying there's only like 10 of them for many years.

They tried that once and it died, probably not worth risking again.

Can you put test tube vaquititas in other porpoises' wombs?

Yes obviously, they never were an abundant species and their range is ridiculously small for a cetacean. Its also hard to do conservations efforts in aeras infested with dangerous cartels. Does anyone know if we have a single picture of a vaquita underwater?

It's Mexican fishing boats and cargo ships in from California. Nothing to do with china. Why would the fucking Chinese have myths around the healing powers of vaquitas? Don't be fucking retarded.

not the vaquitas themselves, dumbass, they just die as a result of being caught in the nets used to catch totoabas so the chinks can use their livers for their magic medicine because they functionally haven't moved past the stone age

Its Mexican fishing boats working for Chinese business interests. The vaquitas are getting caught in the nets as they catch what they're actually looking for and no one can do anything because its fucking Mexico.

We could start by nuking China

They get caught in nets used to fish shrimp. 80% of those shrimps are consumed by USA. So basically it is America’s fault. They could buy shrimp from other sources instead of supporting vaquitas demise but couldn’t get bothered.

Last I heard, there were 8 individuals. The gene pool is much too shallow for a comeback at this stage.
Unfortunately, it's too late for them.
