I think if it wheren't for their short lifespan an the fact that they live underwater that octopusses could have developed a civilization and become the dominant species on the planet

Truly high-intelligence invertebrates. Most likely on the level of the more intelligent non-human vertebrates. These animals are cursed by short lifespans, otherwise they would eventually build civilizations like humans did. If you guys haven't seen the documentary My Octopus Teacher (2020) you should. The guy catches some extraordinary octopus behavior on film.

They are also R-selected, antisocial and most are cannibals to boot, so it's almost impossible they would ever develop a society as longas they retain those traits. By comparison, cuttlefish society would be far more likely.

its not so much for the underwater part, but for the part where they go into self terminate mode after procreating

OP you are a fricking disgrace and an idiot, go frick yourself you moronic underage moron.

You read a few pop-sci articles about how "smart" cephalopods supposedly are so you start thinking "gee wow they're basically people". You are an idiot. Cephalopods are vastly, vastly dumber than any "smart" vertebrate.

Literally what the frick is wrong with you? It's like you don't even have a basic understanding of animal evolution so you just see all these creatures and start thinking of them all as interchangeable things in some disney fantasy.
    >omg wow it looks like aliens I watched on TV because my IQ is 80 and I'm gay
    >omg wow they're smart aha also they look smart too so civilization time!!
    have a nice day immediately.

In the absence of substantiation you're just a loser and nothing you say matters. You have no place here. Your attempts to validate yourself in the absence of argumentation only show how worthless you are.

Give them a longer lifespan, make it so they dont die after spawning children, spawn less children, and make them social.

They don't pass their knowledges to their offsprings and many of them died as soon as their eggs hatched

you mean that the convergent evolution with mammals means that they're the closest thing we have to reasonably intelligent aliens
because many evolutionary lines developed those things ''independently'', including other mollusks
