I honestly think I could beat one of these things pretty easily

would just sneak up behind it and start smashing it with a bat or something

there's no way it can turn around that quickly on land

What can a walrus actually do though? If you hug its hind legs it can't reach you with its tusk, and its too sluggish to get away while you repeatedly pommel it from behind. If you stand to the side of its hind legs then it won't even be able to hit you with a back kick. If it raises its leg to perform a stomp then all you have to do is back off until it finishes its slam, then move back in to continue punching.

It isn't like clubbing a small seal. You would have to pommel it repeatedly. A lot. Really, really a lot. Don't underestimate how thick that blubber is. Like a punching bag. Eventually you'll get tired. Then he gores you with those pointy tusks.

wow the defense strategy for walruses is amazing
they just form a thick wall of blubber and... sit there

I don't understand why a polar bear isn't able to defeat one of these things.
Are their teeth not sharp or long enough to pierce the blubber of a walrus?

Walrus's are slow. They have TONS of blubber. It seems like evolution has failed the polar bears by not equipping them to kill walruses

Polar bears would probably do an okay job in an arena, but walruses have large groups and a simple escape option. The fact this polar bear even tried attacking shows that it can probably be done.

They’re perfectly evolved to counter polar bears
        >walrus are too big to kill in one swipe, therefore the bear has to resort to a drawn out mauling
        >extremely tough, thick, loose skin and a thick layer of blubber makes a drawn out mauling exhausting and extremely hard to do
        >they can reach completely over the back of their neck and back where they would be most vulnerable to stab the bear with their tusks and inflict horrific wounds in a matter of seconds
        >if the bear does somehow manage to grab the walrus by the neck without being skewered, an adult walrus is so big and strong that if it decides to flee for the water rather than fight the bear has no way of stopping its escape

why the frick would you attack a walrus when you can just hunt a seal

Animals also don't get to call an ambulance when they get hurt so getting into fights with big and dangerous opponents is something they never do. Nature isn't like Godzilla movies

        Anonymous

Walruses literally have over twice as much muscle as they do fat. The blubber is only a few inches thick; what looks like thicker rounded flab is the actual muscle contours.
