I have a question about cats, being fairly new to owning them. I adopted a female kitten this June. I was told by the rescue that she was about four or five months old then, making her about a year old now.

I noticed that she really enjoys me patting her back at the base of her tail, which I didn't think was odd at first, because my family's oldest dog likes this as well. I looked it up because I was curious why animals like this, and that's where I read that it's a common way to relieve stress in anxious cats and/or "calm" female cats in heat, and that a cat letting you do this means they trust you very much.

This gives concern because 1. my cat is spayed, so no heat, and 2. that's kind of what was said back in the day when it was normal to "calm" anxious women by inducing an orgasm. My cat also tends to put her ass in my face when she wants me to pat her backside, and will get shaky or unstable on her paws if I give her too many pats. This could just be a "this feels platonically awesome" thing, and I hope it is, but she never reacts in that extreme when I pet her in any of her other favorite places, like her cheeks or the back of her head.

TL;DR: I know it's probably a stupid concern to have, but could I be unintentionally pleasuring my cat by giving her butt pats? I don't want to keep doing it if so.

Few years ago I did the tapping on the back thing to my cat and he got an erection.
So yeah I never did that again.

There is a small chance that the spaying proccess was not completed fully and there are still some hormones being produced,it's unlikely but a vet can help you with that

OP's reminding me of an unpleasant moment when I was doing this to the oldest female cat I had years ago and she walked in and shouted "What are you doing?!" and reacted as if I had a finger up inside my cat. Instinctively I went "N-nothing..." and tried to show her, but she just reacted with disgust and turned away.

It's not a sex thing. I mean, when they're in heat, yeah they get overly affectionate but I mean even male cats like getting rubbed in that spot. It's no different from the way dogs legs kick if you rub their belly in the right spot. Animals just understand it as grooming, human hands are ideal for massage, extreme fine motor control, able to grip and change preasure, small pleasing ridges on the fingers. They just understand it to mean we love them and are bonding with them.

It's not an erogenous zone or whatever the fricking morons want you to believe.
moronic zoologists believe cats have an erogenous zone on the bottom of the tail, evidenced by the fact that they go into 'presenting' mode when you scratch them there. Presenting is a sexual reflex present in most quadruped mammalians, and even bipeds show some signs of it.
Now this simply goes over the simplest realization that when you are scratched somewhere that feels good, you reflexively position yourself to intensify the feeling. If you get scratched on your back while it is tensed, you will wiggle too.
The spots cats love to be scratched on are pretty much all tension spots. The neck, the side of the head, the back, and obviously, the connection with the tail. All spots which they keep in tension at all time when awake.
The fact that it's a nerve center doesnt either make it an erogenous zone. We have a similar bundle of important nerves at roughly the same spot.

Does her vegana get wet when you pat her butt? If it is dry, she is not horny.

You seem to be in denial, OP. Me and the others probably won’t change our minds, though, so you might want to skip spending your energy on trying to make that happen. Anyway, I don’t see why it would be a problem to be doing this to your cat. Isn’t it good that you’re relieving your cat of stress? I don’t see anything inherently bad about it, and the cat apparently likes it.
    >2. that's kind of what was said back in the day when it was normal to "calm" anxious women by inducing an orgasm.
    And?

Anyway, it might make you feel better to know that there are two cats in my neighourhood that love it when I do this, one of them male and one of them female. Interestingly, though, the female will bring her head down and her back up, while the male mostly keeps standing up entirely although he pushes his back up a bit.

He isn't, LOL. Do you think I'm constantly patting the base of my cat's tail every day in spite of my stated concerns? I'm not, and nowhere in my post did I say I was.

Again, like I said in the original post: I had patted the area where her back meets her tail a couple times thinking it was normal because my family's dog likes the same type of pets, got curious why animals do that, looked it up, read the conflicting opinions online regarding specifically cats, noticed how she seemed to react differently compared to when I pet other favorite spots of hers, and I haven't done it since, even when she literally shoves her lower back area into my hand to indicate she wants said pats.

This is because I want to make sure what the science is on it and what the general consensus is before deciding whether to resume or not. I am not interested in the opinions of melodramatic pet crusaders who see kitty-diddlers around every corner and hurl extremely hefty accusations like they're talking about the weather.

If you're looking for a freak to crucify, I'm not it. Look elsewhere.

Dude, you are not pleasuring your cat in a sexual way. It just feels good with no sexual overtones. Purely platonic, although the cat may "love" you in the way that cats do. A cat in heat behaves very differently.

I'm not molesting her, lol. I'm asking about this in the first place *because* the possibility concerns me and I don't want to continue giving her butt pats if that's the case, even if she keeps asking for it. Stop throwing accusations and making mountains out of molehills and take a chill pill.

Going to wait and see what the majority verdict is before I form a conclusion.

Cats have a lot of nerve endings in that area so it's very sensitive and pleasurable for them to be touched there. Not necessarily sexual so don't worry about it
