How do we keep our dog's hind legs strong

I visited an old female dog and her hind legs are a bit worn. Apparently she needs to be held up when she's go poo because her hind legs can't support her. She still goes for walks and moves around, though it's obvious her back legs aren't what they used to be.

My dog is of similar shape so I was wondering how to keep this from happening for as long as possible. How can I keep my dog's hind legs strong so he doesn't have this issue in his old age.

how can any of you stand this? that our soft furry friends are going to get old and die, everyone and everything we've ever cared about will too, and then we will just go away forever. without any answers or explanations as to why and when and by who.
i mean, why shouldn't we just enjoy our best doggo friends forever and always have them to cuddle and go on relaxing walks with? how is any of this acceptable to anyone?

Keeping them intact, for at least as long as it takes for them to reach sexual maturity. Good diet, and balanced excersize (some breeds need more than just walking and running to keep in good condition).
This is preventative measures from the very beginning however. But sometimes arthritis just happens and there's nothing you can do.

There are like straps or pads for arthritis you can put on your body. Why not for dogs?

Usually a problem with the hips more than the legs.
But just make sure you're walking and exercising the dog regularly and give it a decent diet. But they're still living things and wear down over time and get feeble, and you're fortunate to have a pet that dies of old age and not the million other things that can happen before then.
I've never been that lucky, they either got out and turned into road kill, or had to get put down because they were sick.

So to keep dog hope healthy we exercise them, but to keep them from getting bad, what do we do?

Do you guys know if I should be letting my dog jump on my bed? Its a kind of tall bed. Is it going to wear his hind legs down?

I'm being serious here. I need fricking help. I need to keep my dog's back leg healthy. He'll get old and die sure but he shouldn't have to go down because his legs gave out.

Get a stool for them to step down with or like a gym mat to land on
Jumping up on the bed is fine, it's the landing that hurts.

Robotic exoskeleton are now a consumer-grade product for dogs, they are quite expensive now and won't replac ethe chariot harnesses any time soon. But I expect in a couple years they will be commonplace in the Western world.

I was just thinking this. Old people use canes and wheel cheers, they would die without it. Why not something similar for dogs?

Elimination of inbred genetic lines. Dog breeds in general should be eliminated. Almost all domestic breeds for all animals developed strictly for the "aesthetic senses" of morons with money need to be eliminated. It's an act of inhuman cruelty to allow the practice to continue.

Certain breeds are predisposed to conditions like degenerative myelopathy, or intervertebral disc slippage. My lab mix had weak legs for his last 4 or so years, and wasn't hurting for exercise. Unfortunately I'm with

There must be something to keep him from going drastically down or in pain, no?

            Good diet
            Good genetics
Keep them exercised and strong their whole life
Ultimately there's no stopping time though.

Send the dog into a spacecraft at relativistic speeds and orbit a black hole.

it's going to be trillions of dollars and take hundreds of years to develop. that's why we all will die. the only hope is in the distant future humanity is Uber rich and technologically god-like that they create some kind of tech to resurrect all dead people that ever existed

You don't need to. Just feed them human food and avoid anything sold as dog food and they'll be fine

Of course it'll be more expensive but surely that's worth it, right?

                >Just feed them human food
Unless you live in Europe it doesn't qualify as food
