Look, I know you have a bird fetish, but you really are overrating their capabilities. Crows can be pretty clever, but that's because other birds are such hollow skulled, vapid creatures that they look smart by comparison; it's a pretty low bar.

    >inb4 muh corvids
Corvids are smart in some aspects, they have decent memory and some problem solving ability, but that's about it, they don't hold a candle to social animals like rats, chimps, whales, dolphins, elephants, horses and dogs. All mammals by the way.

  4. 1 year ago
    Anonymous

Human brains take a huge amount of energy to develop, so biologically speaking, if you want a smart animal the parent has to devote a lot of energy and resources to it. By far the best way to do this is with milk, you don't have to worry about finding food the right size or the right type and you don't have to worry about times when you cant find food because your body will use your own fat stores to feed the baby. It contains all the right nutrients, digestive enzymes, hormones and antibodies to keep your child healthy, look it up, it is the evolutionarily superior option. An egg layer will never have this and never compete with mammals.

Except pigeons make crop milk for their hatchlings.

        Anonymous

With the crop, which they use to store and mash up food for their chicks they can regurgitate the cell lining to feed them, but it's still nowhere near as good as producing milk like a mammal.

          Anonymous

It works just as well and the young are on their own in weeks. Regurgitation also works great. Birds min maxed weight and developed dramatically more efficient respiratory, renal, reproductive and even neurological systems. Their eyes, superior. Their ears, superior. Their vocalizations, superior. You think you're clowning on birds for laying eggs when it's entirely purposeful because weight kills. Weight is inertia, and they live by the millisecond. Not fearing mammals, but other birds.
Humans are more connected to birds than anything else in the wild world. We hear and see them constantly because they aren't afraid to be in our presence. We write poetry and song in their name and spirit. They are to us, freedom and grace, pride, strength, and cleverness. The only animals which compare are domestic dogs and horses, which are loyalty and service respectively and need no defense. In all the wild world though, it's birds humans desire. A wood without birdsong is foreboding, but with is relaxing and inviting. We put up tens of thousands of feeders for no other reason than to see them land and spend a fleeting moment in our presence.
Humans love birds, and have always envied them. Birds are amazing, and you are some kind of broken, bitter person for not understanding that.

Mammals have higher evolutionary potential due to not leaving our undeveloped young out as free lunch and paternal genetic imprinting creating more possibilities for novel mutations. This is why birds are sky vermin, and the dominant complex species on earth are mammals, and so is the only one with even a slight chance of winning the eternal arms race and BTFOing life tiself.

Entirely because they have to cope with egg laying, and for no other reason, birds will never be anything but mere birds, automata that keep getting more and more refined for their mortal niche. All because egg laying is so gimped, they needed flight to keep their children from being eaten before they were born.

Ovivorous bats will be the end of them. Even rats can wipe out an entire bird species because they didn't build their nests up high enough.

        Anonymous

Yeah, bats, who are are also permanently stuck to simply being the flying troglodytes of the night, again, save for the few species of giant hodor-moron-ass bats who eat fruits like queers, are TOTALLY going to steal the vast majority of niches that birds occupy
        K E K !

          Anonymous

The only reason birds even exist is they either live somewhere where an egg eating predator hasn't landed yet or they hide on top of a tree like an incel. And even the latter ones get heemed hard by a fricking housecat, and sometimes rats (they can climb a bit you know). Frick, even dogs bred specifically not to kill things like labs and herding dogs will wipe out ground nesting bird populations. Not by hunting the adults, but because it's so easy to end an entire generation before it's even born.

Oviparity is an evolutionary handicap. it restricts which niches an animal can occupy. It restricts how well it can deal with competition. It restricts how readily they can move to a new niche. And in the case of flying animals, it totally cuts off any chance they had at equaling man. The average oviparous animal is extremely primitive and lucky the world is so large it can coexist with more advanced life (the least fragile ones cope by laying dozens of eggs and guarding them 24/7 because of their based slow metabolisms. taking notes, bird boys?).

What weird cope, to be talking about mammals, but bring up cage fights and birds attacking small canids, when the topic is actually how birds are permanently third rate at best and have no evolutionary potential because the weaknesses of egg laying required them to hyperspecialize towards flight, and how egg laying is a primitive and flawed strategy that limits the evolutionary potential of a species.

    >12 species of canid are known to have been hunted by golden eagles and they collectively make up about 2.8% of the diet from all surveyed golden eagle nests. For the most part, foxes are the preferred prey. In a nest in Mongolia, Corsac fox (Vulpes corsac) were surprisingly the main prey species, making up 38% of sampled remains. Kit fox (Vulpes macrotis), swift fox (Vulpes velox), gray fox (Urocyon cinereoargenteus) and island fox (Urocyon littoralis) are readily predated in North America. Red foxes make up 13.5% of nest remains in Sicily and 5.9% in the Republic of Macedonia. Among red foxes, juveniles are usually targeted as prey, though golden eagles can kill foxes of any age or condition, including adult male red foxes heavier than the eagles themselves. Occasionally, even coyotes, including healthy adult males, can be successfully killed by golden eagles.

You tried to branch off into a carnivora.net tier animal fight argument but forgot that honor is as important as victory. So it's a red herring you still lost.

The original topic was and still is how egg laying resulted in birds permanently losing any and all evolutionary potential because it's a shitty reproductive strategy. They will always be pesky vermin and prey. Mid-tier predators at best, but better suited for eating fish and other vermin. Egg laying is so gimped that birds have failed to displace bats because something would just eat their eggs if they tried to edge further into that niche. The T. rex days aren't coming back, because if they try, something will just eat their eggs.

Bats can't even compete with birds which is why they are nocturnal.
The fastest flying animals are birds, the largest and heaviest flying animals are birds. Birds can flying for longer distances, higher altitudes, and longer duration than any bat. Birds are also far more agile in the air than bats. Multiple bird species prey on bats, while only 1 or two bats have the ability to prey on birds.
Birds are infinitely more effective flying animals.

          >Animal fills available niche after birds already exist
          >IT CANT COMPETE
It's more like birds can't compete because they can't expand into bats niche. All they can do is eat the tiny bats, while diurnal bats (yes, they exist) are peaceful fruit eaters. Mammals win again, even as incel animals that try and stay away from hand-having groundchads.

Yet alligators are wildly successful despite changing very little over geologic time scales. Handicap, hm.

Yeah, handicap. Laying 70 eggs to have 2 children. They haven't changed because they can't leave their niche with that going on. They tried to a long, long time ago, but it was a failed diversifcation. They are forever the booby trap of the water.

tbh after rats and cats do the needful its very likely that bats will diversify to fill the empty niche since nothing else can, and once they're there, birds won't be coming back since ovivorous bats are next on the to-do list, assuming rodents and increasingly tree-climbing felines don't keep the egggays away.

insufficiently complex life without the potential to ascend to synthetic life is worse than bacteria yes
simple life will exist and adapt as long as it can metabolize something, but a creature like a bird is kind of fricked if the environment changes too drastically and will never evolve the ability to abandon biology

Hens lay and brood even without a rooster they don't know any better. For hens "sex" is just touching buttholes while the rooster stomps on your head.

You're the only mentally ill here. Also eggs come from that same shit-piss hole.

The difference is i wash the eggs off, crack them open, and then cook them to over 160 degrees.

The shell that touched cloaca is then crushed and fed back to the chicken.

              >washing eggs
This is why Americans are scared of raw eggs. "Washing" them damages their shell, which makes the inside more likely to spoil. It is completely sufficient to brush off the eggs. This way the egg shell stays intact and you don't even need to put the eggs in the fridge.

It's peak efficiency and works fine. Split genitalia was a hack mammals came up with to solve health issues created by the moronic move to viviparity.

            >the moronic move to viviparity
Mammals dominated the planet and everything that lays eggs devolved into lowly vermin or giant vermin because of that "moronic" move.

            >nooo ur dick might get a booboo
Yeah but your eggs are delicious.

inb4 birdgay seethe and gore spam
In the end it doesn't just even out, it works out in mammals favor, which is why archosaurs had to almost entirely leave the land and cope with being the equivalent of giant flying bugs that hide in trees.

Birds devolved from the chads of nature to the school shooters of nature tbh
              >Theropods then: Giant musclebound killing machines that can run down and slaughter gigafauna (GIGA, as in chad)
              >Theropods now: Various flavors of chicken, rely on surprise attacks and staying out of reach like a mentally disturbed teenager shooting children from 50 feet away
they even tried to re-evolve into the chads of nature, but they failed when mammals countered with their own murderous biped, all because they laid eggs and egg laying necessitates cowardice as soon as the top spot is contested by something that doesn't have totally immobile young basically wrapped up for easier consumption.

Mammals don't owe any success to viviparity or divided genitalia, and birds remain the juggernaut of the 0-10kg weight class. Also flying is cooler than anything mammals do.

                Anonymous

Viviparity and the necessary divided genitalia are the entire reason theropods got kicked off the top of the food chain and resorted to hiding as far up as possible. The smallest mammalian "predator" (pic related, a bigger ecological terrorist than cats) is enough to wipe out entire bird populations if they don't. Egg laying is a primitive and moronic strategy.
                >and flying is-
Bats are more successful than birds, and more efficient.

Birds don't really have sexual pleasure. They just get so horny they coom into each other. It's very mentally ill of them, so they can be gay as it's pretty much the same thing.
