Every specie has a mortal dosage of chocolate even humans. We just have a high tolerance to it.

theobromine is toxic to us too, it's just that it's only dangerous in such quantities that if you just started eating dark chocolate and didnt stop, you would die from the sugar overdose long before the theobromine got you.

My dog ate a chocolate bar and was fine

Its toxic to us too, but the dose needed to give you more than a jittery feeling is huge.

Dogs and many other animals can't metabolize it so the only way to eliminate it is through the urine, this is why it can be deadly to those animals, It stays in their system for much longer than for us so if they keep eating it can reach toxic levels fast unlike us.

This. Toxicity in general depends heavily on how the body deals with a substance and dosage. Anything in your body in too high an amount can be toxic, hell if you drink several liters of water at once it can kill you by diluting your electrolytes and making your brain swell up against the inside of your skull.

Humans are just intelligent enough to be able to recognize abstract concepts like (if I have too much of this it will be bad but I can have enough that it won't be)
      >inb4 but people often don't practice moderation
Irrelevant, many do and almost all animals fact the longterm and abstract thinking necessary to understand these things.

Because cocoa is intended to be poisonous, exactly to prevent animals to eat it.

Theobromin probably killed many humans before some get resistant to.

Arre you moronic? How did people who originated in a whole different continent from the one cocoa developed become immune? And how come there wasn't a single death reported?

he's a fricking moron. the reality is we ate enough random fruit in africa to develop efficient metabolism for similar compounds since a great deal of plants really don't want mammals eating their offspring.

It is a substance the plant specifically produces to detain animals from eating their babies. Humans are just weird and like to eat the stuff plants produce to not being eaten. (Caffein, theobromin, capsaicin, most drugs from plants, etc) well, not alcohol, alcohol is just yeast pee…

Yes but some animals are also eating these plants for the antifungal, antibacterial or vermifugal effects.
      >if you just started eating dark chocolate and didnt stop, you would die from the sugar overdose long before the theobromine got you.
Sure, chocolate has to include at least a little sugar since chocolate is cocoa, cocoa butter and sugar but you could eat pure cocoa as well.

Chocolate is a gift from the gods, only intended for human pleasure. Any beast who dares try to steal the priceless cocoa will be struck down by the gods' wrath.

Chocolate is good flavoring to add to your sugar.

have you eaten cocoa paste without any sugar? it's uneatable

I like my chocolate unreasonably dark and bitter but even at that I can't go higher than about 93% cocoa without supplemental sweetness. Pure cocoa is pretty much inedible if it were not for sugar and our ability to cook things.

            >I can't go higher than about 93% cocoa without supplemental sweetness.
The sweetness is not directly related to the sugar percentage, some 70% are more bitter than the 99% (which isn't really chocolate), just try different types of cocoa. Highest percentage chocolates tend to include more cacao butter and be more unctuous. It goes without saying that higher percentage of cocoa doesn't mean higher quality (as long as it stays above 65% of course).
I like pure cocoa in chocolate milk and

Its fricking great, i bet you like white “chocolate” homosexual

I also like white chocolate (which also isn't really chocolate).
