We have no proof of that but not that it couldnt happen considering the tigers spend most of their life there and raised there while lions came as full adults already

Imagine being a part of the audience for the first time they brought elephants into the arena. Like you and everyone sitting next to you would go from the humble cow being the most exotic animal you've ever seen to watching a ten thousand pound tusked monster with a tentacle face fling a chariot halfway across the coliseum, you'd shit your ass if you saw that.

The Games were an extinction level event that went without parallel for over 1500 years.

In america it took hunting parties shooting down whole plains of bison from railroad cars and in africa and the colonies, it took every adventurer with a well oiled wallet to outmatch and outperform ancient rome in the business of slaughtering untold masses of wildlife by the tens and hundreds and thousands of metric tons.

It took the industrial revolution for the Romans to be outdone in the number of whole species they drove to extinction, which we only know about now because they managed to stop for only long enough to make mosiacs and frescas of the damned things.

it's kinda cruel, but at the same time, it gives the animal predatory release for at least one last time of its life, so eh.
i don't see the issue with doing it once just to see who wins.

i'd want to see eastern lowland gorilla silverback vs. american black bear.

      Anonymous

Bear wins hands down. Gorillas might be strong, but they still have all of a typical apes weaknesses (slow on the ground, individually not THAT strong, poor eyesight and no real defensive weapons).

        Anonymous

gorilla has some big ass teeth, and i'd argue it's probably at least comparably strong since it's a black bear. the bear absolutely has fighting skill advantage, and weaponry to make it even worse.
would still be interesting to watch, but probably a foregone conclusion.

        >Ape Weaknesses
        >Poor eyesight
What the frick are you talking about? Primates as a whole have fricking excellent visual acuity compared to other mammals, our depth perception is top-notch. Primates specifically have shittier hearing and smell compared to other mammals BECAUSE they've adapted to rely more on excellent sense of sight and touch.
Apes take it even farther because they (and old world monkeys) re-evolved trichromatic color vision, giving them much better visual detail.

Bear would win with pure tard strength. Intelligence and technique mean nothing for the tiger at this point.

Not that the bear in the pic isn't well sized, but the guy is positioning himself a bit away from the carcass and using perspective to make the bear bigger than it actually is. It's a trick very often used in hunting pictures.

Tigers are ambush predators, once it loses that edge it's toast.
Though even with it the bear still has a good chance.

          >once it loses that edge it's toast.

There's videos of tigers getting shot on the chest, belly and even face and they still manage to frick whomever did it

            >whomever did it
Was it a bear that did it?
What I'm saying is an ambushed bear would fight with confusion and whatever damge the initial pounce did, while a fully aware bear fights at full strength. That is simply too much for a tiger.

No, I'm asking if any of their descendants survived and where brought to north America. I was curious how far along we really where in tiger domestication.

The usual cope liongays come up with is that lions hunt in packs while tigers are solitary animals. So if you put a pack of 10 lions against a tiger, the lions will win.
