I was a trainee in a lab that worked with mice for 6 months. They got sick and we had to sacrifice all of them, i left a little after that

Yeah, I'm a vet tech. Been doing it seven years now. Banfield pay makes it way worth it.

Did three years of volunteering at a zoo as a zookeeper, got to the point where I'd have keys to the enclosures on me.
The staff was awesome, and we worked really well together. Still, it's a thankless job only someone with a passion for caring for animals would do.
The pay is bad and you can forget days off or holidays with friends and family.
We'd work in the sun, under rain and hail, knee deep in snow and mud etc. Not to mention the injuries and the bites.

I work at a dog daycare. Pay is horrific with no sign of improvement like with pretty much all animal-related jobs and but a big plus is that I can always take my own dogs to work with me.

      >a big plus is that I can always take my own dogs to work with me.
I work in tech. Somedays we cuddle until 10-11am and sometimes I join our meetings from the park while my dogs are running around.

I'm also 24/7 with them... so not sure if what you described is a "big plus" while doing slave labour.

I work at a zoo but most of my works are behind the scene stuff, though I do get to help feed the animals from time to time and now the shoebill just kind of hang around near my window whenever he's outside.

Used to volunteer at my local cultural preserve (in europe we have this thing called a "history" that we like to keep alive by preserving old farm breeds of various animals). Honestly, it was great. It's a shame i'd never get hired there, but i do look back on it fondly.
It's just a kilometer from the city center, and a popular destination for families with children. Kind of like a very small zoo.

What do you do at the zoo? Is it something more visitor oriented or are you a technician of some sort?

I thought the zookeepers did that too. Strange. What country is the zoo in?
