Earlier this year I felt so bad emotionally I was craving for a fur friend. Plus, to be completely honest I felt amused with the idea of buying them clothes and stuff. Now I feel kinda more calm, so I mostly think of how much work it would take to maintain a dog.

When I read online guides it feels like the only people who can take proper care of dogs are shepherds and stay at home moms.

Have you tried something called human friends?

Don't humans need even MORE space and attention than a dog?
Are you saying I can just keep my human in the apartment for 8-10 hours while I work?

          No. They don't.

What they are is significantly more likely to maul you to death than a dog. They are also more likely to steal your shit, destroy it, or frick you over socially by spreading lies or prying where they shouldn't in the name of their sick sense of justice. Humans are manipulative and nasty tyrants and there is not one of them that is truly good. They will all try to use you if something pushes them far enough. They're not a fun thing to have around. They're a necessity, at best, and any society that progresses to the level where they aren't a necessity does away with them in short order.

The only real argument you can make in favor of these infuriating creatures (most of them aren't even self aware) is that doing harder things makes you cooler.

          >missing the joke that badly
          Are all dogfrickers this dumb?
Don't ever graduate to having a human pet.

That's almost as smart as getting a job so you can afford childcare

This is also a viable idea if you can both find somebody and afford it.
The downside is that you risk spending less time with the dog than the other person, ao the other anon's idea of getting one during your vacation so you two have some time to bond is a good one.
I'm rooting for you anon. Dogs are such wonderful companions, even if they can frustrate and irritate you from time to time.

My family did this for dog owners when I was a kid, except the owners dropped them off at our place in the morning. It was great for everyone involved. One nova scotia duck tolling retriever in particular we had over almost daily for years. We even synched vacations with his owners so we could take the dog to our summer cottage while the owners went abroad.

This, 2bh. You're better than most anon.
Do you live alone though? If you have multiple people in your house like I do, it can be okay. Even though we all have different schedules there is pretty much always someone at home with the dog and that's enough even though I'm really the only one that walks him.

I have a friend who isn't an engineer, but he works with drawing and 3d modelling in CAD for an engineering company and he works from home 3 out of 5 days, so there's that option.
Maybe try to negotiate some home office days instead of a raise or something of the sort.
Also, I don't know if you have yearly paid vacation, but if you have space, such as a decently big yard, you could get yourself a pair of dogs around one year old during your vacation and use the time to get them acquainted with you and to one another, so that when you are gone they can keep each other company.
Ideally you'd actually get three dogs for that, but that might be too much for you.
        Also, what

There's probably a way to make it happen, but you'll probably have to make some sort of sacrifice in the process.
