Why won't a stupid snake eat dog food if you squished it into the shape of a mouse, warmed it in the microwave, and wiggled it in front of them?

Depends on the snake. Some would be happy to eat a dog food sausage and some would eat the dog food sausage if it smelled like its usual prey. Dog food doesn’t have the right ratio of nutrition though. Even the raw stuff would have too much fat and not enough calcium for starters.

impracticality, for a start. Reptiles have far slower metabolisms, so aside from some edge cases you're typically only offering one rodent to a snake once every few weeks to a month. How many mice makes an appropriate meal for a cat? now factor in that they'll likely need to eat a least once a day if not more. Cleanliness is an issue too, a cat isnt going to just swallow a mouse whole, it's going to tear it open and rip chunks off, and it's going to do that a lot, since cat mouthfuls arent really that big. Prepared food is just easier and cleaner.

      Cats don't have to chew.

not as much as people, no, but they still do so to break down food into swallowable pieces. they're not going to just gulp down whole mice like a monitor lizard.

my cat would bite mice in half and swallow them in two gulp. he would usually puke the guts out on the carpet later.

Would small fishes work? Some aquarium species breed non-stop overcrowding the tank. A pond might make that work.

The caloric return on investment for the fish wouldn't be practical. you'd be feeding off dozens of fish per day, every day, and thus have to maintain a pretty sizable breeding stock (likely multiple large tanks to avoid inbreeding depression), as well as food for the fish, etc. You would basically stop being a cat owner with an interesting diet plan and become an aquarist with a cat to which you feed off your surplus.
Any time you have these ideas, understand that you are without a doubt not the first one to think of them, and then realize that if it worked, people would already do it.

See that I mentioned “pond”? The idea is to keep a hardy species outside in a large volume of water. You can even use it as a way to breed individuals with interesting traits so you feed the cat the ones without the trait.

They say this is animal cruelty but the us routinely does this to prisoners who refuse to eat their goyslop, only difference is the feed tube goes through the nose instead of the beak.

if you really wanted to I guess but cats aren't as moronic as reptiles can quickly figure out that they can eat things that aren't shaped like small animals.

Cats can't survive on mice they can only survive on rare indigenous birds and mammals.
