Dormouse advice

I need advice. The house im working on is infested with dormouses (dormice?).
No one has lived there in years and there is woods all around it and no neighbours close so its pretty clear why they chose that place. They have occupied hollow ceiling blocks and you can even see them through the gaps over the day when they are sleeping tight.
Now, the owner wants to put plaster over walls and ceiling and that would mean that those bastards would get cemented alive, so I would like to rescue those bastards, without having to destroy ceiling blocks to remove them by hand, one by one.

TLDR
>Is there any way to trap dormouse so I could release them in the wild or maybe keep them?

how many you got so far? dormice are protected, you need to collect them all no matter what - even if it is necessary to piss into the owner's cereal.

it's the other species of dormouse that's protected, these guys are invasive

Looks like a regular European dormouse to me. Those are native to Croatia. Why do you think it's invasive?

Because they chew isolation from electric cables

Aren't most dormice super endangered? Where you live OP?

Im in Croatia where fee for killing these is around 300 euros.

how many you got so far? dormice are protected, you need to collect them all no matter what - even if it is necessary to piss into the owner's cereal.

I got three of them and i released them but they probably just went back to the same house later

The trap with bucket, spinning tube and some kind of nuts or fruit inside should do the trick. I could try that next week when i return to do works there. They wont go anywhere for sure

      Thanks everyone

The Romans used to eat these. They were kept in a special kind of clay jar called 'glirarium' to be fattened and then they would be roasted and covered in honey. Supposed to be a great delicacy. I think there is Scandinavian country which also eats the dormouse on occasion but cannot remember which. Well it's something to consider.

If romans did better things than figuring out which animal goes best with honey dressing, maybe they wouldn't lost the fricking empire to the vandals.

Huh, apparently even the name of the species makes a reference to that. It's called European edible dormouse.
Also, after looking at OP's webm, I can see why dormice are called "sleep mice" here.

You're mixing up terminology. Invasive species means an animal that's not indigenous in a specific area. Pest is an animal that causes some kind of harm to humans. You must've meant the latter word.

He also meant "insulation". Silly ESL's.

        Op here
I never claimed these guys are invasive or pests, but that was not the topic of this thread.
I wrote that they infested the house and it would be nice if i could get rid of them without killing them

You want to eat them. You shouldn't do that while they are still alive.

apparently you're supposed to get pest control with a license for trapping and killing these things but they're pretty damn cute besides the fleas

Maybe try one of those bucket traps with the spinning tube, so they fall into an oiled bucket.

Thing is they'll all just mob back to their homes.

It's because they are hibernating right now. They are also fully protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act so speak to the owner and leave them alone for now if possible
