I usually set up a crate whenever I get a new dog. I take the door off and throw an old sheet over it so he or she has an isolated place to retreat to when feeling overwhelmed by the new environment. After a week or two of adjustment it goes back in the garage.

Fricking stupid. They're already inside. If the dog is too rowdy to let roam the house you just need to train the thing. And if the person is to lazy or stupid to do that they're a bad owner. You have to take care and manage an animal. Just buying and feeding it isn't enough.

I once worked a job where some guy had his golden lab in a crate all day. The crate was too small so the dogs growth was stunted. It looked like you grabbed it by the face and ass and squished it together. This guy's lived in a small apartment and was clearly on drugs the few times I met him.

Frick you crate gays. Train your dog you lazy c**ts.

crating is new age lazy "training." unless your dog is a working dog that you don't need to be socialized to humans, you allow them free reign of the house, so long as dangerous things are put away. if you have to crate a dog, it's not trained. I have NEVER had a dog that I felt the need to crate, even the high-energy puppies learn not to tear up the house pretty easily. most people's problems is that they get a cute puppy and don't let it get it's energy out through play, or don't leave stimulating toys out while they are gone. of course you're gonna have some accidents at first, some chewed items... but why the frick did you get a puppy if you can't handle that? It makes my blood boil seeing dogs sit in crates for 6-8hrs a day while someone is at work. and they wonder why the dog has anxiety/stress. those are the dogs that will snap one day, and I don't blame them. lazy motherfrickers think putting a dog in a crate is training. how is it trained? the only trick it knows is to go into a crate, lmao. crating should literally be banned, it's the sign of a lazy incompetent dog owner. if this offends you... well, you're an idiot.

i hope your dog never has a health emergency

what has that got to do with anything? are you using a rare example of a reason to crate as a justification for doing it all the time? any normal dog is capable of being crammed into a crate if it's sick and needs to go to the vet, doesn't mean you do it to healthy dogs everyday. but whatever cope helps you sleep.

my dogs are all crate trained
theyve never been crated in the house but they use them, i take the doors off
theyve all been in an emergency situation where crating is necessary
being crate trained or not can be the difference of life or death in a life threatening emergency

There was some idiot on Wauf that told everyone dogs only need 1 hour of attention before work, then crate, then another hour, and they were done and could go back to sleep in their crate.

New age dog trainers can get extremely moronic. They also sanitize their language. Everything is a training tool or educator or whatever when way back when they were called shock collars and choke collars and we said dogs were happy, sad, angry, etc instead of "aroused or calm".

I was so excited to start crate training, but I guess I'll just have to kick my dog instead. Thanks, 4chin!

Because those are the only two options?

Don't get a dog. If you want a companion that you're not going to train, get a cat.

I never crated or kicked my dog and they turned out fine. Crating is a single mom karen meme.

i think theyre an essential for every dog but any crate training method that involves confining the dog while they have an emotional breakdown is cruel and goes.in the garbage

      >emotional breakdown
So if my puppy is being obstinate, and play biting me, and then chewing furniture when I don't let it bite me instead of it's chew toys I am not supposed to crate it then? That seems like the best time to crate the dog and teach it how to control its excitement level.

Totally unnecessary past puppyhood and a sure sign someone has a dog they can't handle and should not own.
        >I wouldn't be able to work 9 and 10 hours shifts and have a border collie in my 500sqft bugman shitbox on 1/20th of an acre without the wonders of crate training!
At that point you are breaking a dogs spirit to lock them in a cage when it's probably not even an aggressive one that needs it.

For tens of thousands of years we just told the puppy no or just yiped and dealt with it as it happened. Now you santized liberal urban yuppy reddit doggays have a puppy and immediately want it in a cage if it's not doing cute meme videos with you.

In all honesty you probably shouldn't even had a dog.
