Reassure it as best you can. Remind it that you are not the one who rapes it.

What breed? Some are a lot more prone to heart condition than others. I would demand my money back regardless.

Biewer Yorkshire Terrier a la pom pon, to name the breed in full glory lol.
What pisses me off the most, the breeder gave me a health certificate that states the puppy is perfectly healthy.

Yorkies are notoriously unhealthy dogs, even the best bred ones are still prone to fricked up hearts and joint problems.
The Biewer terrier is not actually a proper, defined breed seperate from the Yorkshire, they are just yorkies with particolour/piebald gene. At this stage, they're breeding for colour and not much else. There is nothing even close to a health guarantee possible for a Biewer terrier, because they aren't a set breed with a standard.

That isn't to say all purebred dogs are shit. I know someone that bred Lhasa Apso for health and temperament. Her last remaining dog she bred with is almost 19 and is only now showing age. I consistently see dogs from her lines living comfortably past 16, some lasting as long as 20.

I got my small terrier mix out of the newspaper for $100 sixteen years ago and she's still going strong. Never had a major health issue, but I believe that to be up to pure dumb luck. I could just as easily ended up with a frail, sickly mixed breed with the issues of both (unknown) parents.

I knew someone else who paid out the ass to have a dalmatian pup flown out to them from a so called "reputable" breeder. It has a horrific heart murmur and will likely not live long. They thought they were doing the right thing, but didn't really know what to look out for in a breeder. It's sad and breeders that pull this shit on unsuspecting people that just want a healthy animal to love can go and get fricked.

          >That isn't to say all purebred dogs are shit.

pure bred dogs are your best bet to get a ehalthy dog with predictable temperament:

          https://cs.working-dog.com/dogs-details/2435702/Baxter-Ostraryka

search any breed on that site and look what breeders test for. "good, responsible, dedicated, passionate" breeders that is. we get loads of imported street dogs from shitholes here that basically live and breed semit wild with all those natural selection pressures supposedly being at work. they literally have all and any genetic defect you can name: blind, deaf, overbite, underbite, no teeth, missing joints (!), ED, HD, SD, cancers etc.

This is my experience as well as someone who works with dogs professionally. There are bad breeders among pedigree breeders but that is why you research and meet a breeder and their dogs BEFORE a prospective liter is even conceived and you ask for the results of any health-testing done on the parents.

That's only if the breeder is responsible. And because a lot aren't you're more likely to find a super healthy mutt if you put the same time and money you put into researching and buying from a breeder.

If dogs are inbred to “fix” pointless aesthetic traits, cancer and epilepsy soon follow. The dog genome is not well understood. But disorders past age 8 are not a breeders problem.

Should've not bought a designer breed and should've asked for the test results of the parents. Also, living beings sometimes are born with defects unfortunately, even if a breeder takes utmost care of only breeding with proven healthy stock and very low COI %.

A good breeder would, if it was missed during health screening, absolutely offer a refund in this case.

Pick an actual healthy toy breed next time then, like the papillon or Chihuahua.

My dog is a mutt. All in the dame breed group, so they aren’t behaviorally fricked, but still not a purebred. They still look and act as young as they ever did despite being 7 and vets can’t find a single thing wrong or that might be wrong in the future besides being intact.

“Responsible” inbreeders just test for the small handful of disorder they know about. The dog genome is not well understood but inbreeding depression and vestigiality are. If dogs are bred to look a certain way other traits like lifespan are vestigial.
