"Orcas have an estimated bite force of 19,000 PSI "
"Squirrels, on the other hand - not only have razor sharp (and ridiculously strong) rodent teeth - but they use them with AT LEAST 7,000 psi of bite force; but have been shown to bite at 22,000 psi, as adults."
>a eurasian wolf easily
delusional. a gray wolf is perfectly capable of killing larger dogs due to its superior bite force. a wolf bite is stronger than a lion's. the mastiff would be at severe risk of death while the wolf wouldn't be very threatened, at best you can hope that the dog drives the wolf back but in a fight to the death, I'd give the wolf 90% odds
it's an estimate by biologists due to the skull size and shape of the wolf, official measurements on the wolf's bite force have never been conducted properly but we have data on hyenas and other dog breeds, and by comparing the size and shape of the skull of these animals to the wolf a rough estimate can be arrived at
some dog breeds have been recorded to reach 700 psi at the absolute highest, while having weaker jaws and smaller skulls than the average wolf. a hyena can reach upwards of 1100 psi in official measurements, while having a similar sized skull, slightly harder but weaker jaw

>it's an estimate by biologists
Okay but which ones?
their size varies by country but on average they're between 70-80 cm tall which is about on par with tibetan mastiffs. they weigh anywhere from 32 to 89 kg which is a pretty huge range but an average sized one would be around the same weight as a mastiff as well (60 kg)
>a wolf bite is stronger than a lion's
A lion’s bite is about three times stronger

This is false. A 34 kg wolf had a bite force recorded of 593 Newtons vs a 290 kg lion with a bite force of over 1700 Newtons. Now that’s an especially large lion and a pretty average wolf, but even then a tiger weighing a pretty average 180 kg in the same study had a bite force of 1500 newtons so it doesn’t make a huge difference
what study is that? i looked around and there are no concrete numbers for any of this shit, they seem to vary wildly depending on who is measuring them. one test found a wolf's bite to be 400 psi while another found it to be 600 psi. some dog breeds have bite forces upwards of 700 psi despite having much smaller and weaker jaw than wolves, strongly implying that bite forces varie a lot depending on the test. one such test found a lion's bite to be around 650 psi, apparently weaker than some dogs.
until the tests are significantly improved and standardized i wouldn't put any stock into this
Their main role is to dissuade predators, I believe it could go up against a wolf, maybe a leopard if it's aware of its presence but it won't have good odds against them, and it absolutely will get shredded by a bear, let alone a fucking tiger.
You're correct, I apologize for the poor wording, I'm a bit woozy from medication (please don't misunderstand, I'm not a druggie I just sustained an injury), what I meant to say is that the mastiff would have the "bravery" to go up against those.
Leopards are rather small cats, a large dog would "win" most fights if it squared up with one. By that I mean the Leopard would retreat before it sustained an injury. A cornered Leopard is a different story, but it is not like it would win every time.
Some big Leopards you got there, don't they average like 70-80 pounds? Sure, some grow well in excess of 100 pounds, even closing in on 200, but the average is small.
The self control exhibited by well-bred mastiffs is astounding. That dog could have easily bit down harder and ripped the pitbulls throat out, but it only wanted to go far enough to just make it hurt. Sometimes they just walk away from a fight they think is stupid. Even border collies have enough bite force to sever large chunks of the human body and mastiffs have double that.
I was only bit by a mastiff once and they gave me some pretty bad bruises. Later that year, the same mastiff tore an entire leg off a stray dog that rushed its owner on a walk. It's a world of difference away from pitbulls, that are always "game" as in they always, without exception, attack to kill, even if it was only for a minor annoyance.
For those wondering, the now removed video anon is replying to was showcasing a dogfight from what looked like China where a pitbull and a mastiff were let loose to attack each other. Within about ten seconds, the mastiff had the pitbull pinned to the ground, it’s jaw around the pit’s neck, where it dragged the dog around until it eventually had stopped struggling, where a couple of humans dragged the pit bull away similar to as if it was at a concert and had just ran up onto the stage and screamed a slur and was now being dragged away by security, as it sort of gave a look of disappointment as it stared at the mastiff, it’s face dragging against the ground as it was pulled away by its legs in shame. The video quality was somewhat low, but it looked like the mastiff hadn’t really ravaged the pitbull, and had actually caused only minor damage to its neck as it held the dog down. Then, the camera panned to the mastiff, who had a jolly little smile on his face. As such, (
Can it beat a pitbull
), yes, a mastiff can certainly subdue a pitbull, let alone kill it, though pinning that creature to the ground and still keeping it alive may be a harder task than just biting it’s head off.

i actually just saw a webm on /gif/ the other day of one of these fucking demolishing a pigger.
wasn't even close, the pigger could do nothing. it was almost like it was intended to be a bait dog for it. i'll look and see if it's still up and crosslink it if it's possible to do so. if i can even figure out how.
Where do you even find footage of this shit (outside of /gif/ I mean, I assume they had to find it somewhere else to post it)

in a weird way, it's kind of abusive to not let fighting dogs fight.
it's like if you kept a pointer from pointing. he'd go just as insane and snap like a pitbull does. every fiber of the dog's genetics is telling it it is supposed to fight, yet it's punished and yelled at when it acts even slightly aggressive. it's a recipe for disaster.
basically, though a tibetan mastiff is a fighting dog.
you got that feel to you like your eyes just glaze over and you screech your political opinion on repeat.

Pitbulls are absolute shit in combat, they're low weight and their frame is too lean. Not to mention their fur is too thin and short. Their strength lies in their nagger tier intellect by which i mean once they bite something they'll never ever let it go. They lack any sort of self preservation instinct.

I know exactly which webm you're talking about, pitbull was going insane and the moment the owner let him off the leash the Mastiff practically crushed his throat and couldn't do anything, whole time all you heard was the Mastiff taking some deep breaths. What's impressive was just before the Mastiff went right up the pitbull and was completely calm with no reaction
idk about a grey wolf, but any of the smaller wolf breeds probably die.
all big cats kill it, no exception. their strength is just incredible.
i don't think there's any bears it would stand a chance against.

IDK about this dog but a pittbull could fend off a tiger or bear, probably beat wolves easily.. pitbulls are beasts man
Game bred pittie can beat hippos
whoever wins, we lose

leopard would kill one 10/10

They were bred to fend off snow leopards
snowleopard =/= leopard and
fend off =/= kill

A leopard averages around 120-130 pounds. Dogs stop being functional at a certain weight while big cats retain agility and gain strength
Some big Leopards you got there, don't they average like 70-80 pounds? Sure, some grow well in excess of 100 pounds, even closing in on 200, but the average is small.
All leopard subspecies average out to be 120s-130s. Big leopard are forest leopards from congo, Persian leopards and sri Lanka.
leopards regularly kill large dogs in india
