WTF what rule did I break with these?! At least the ban is over.

    [...]
    >created for their sense of smell
Bred for their smelling behavior by clueless whites who thought making their ears bigger made them smell better, despite animals that have superior senses of smell and depend on them to survive having smaller and pointy ears. Ok. It has "smelling drive" meaning it is a mentally ill animal prone to obsessive smelling but it does not have a nose that is actually more sensitive. Western hounds are partially pre-trained working dogs for hunters. Not proper detection animals. They do not need a nose that can detect more chemicals more accurately, they need to obsessively follow the stench of the quarry.

The russian wild dog mix has a more sensitive nose so it can be trained to identify a broader range of chemicals more accurately.

    [...]
anon you are aware that the military and police use german shepherds, malinois, and even retrievers for detection, not hounds, for a reason, correct?

they don't have a better sense of smell. they are stubborn and stupid so things don't distract them from sniffing around for deer.

    Bloodhound tracker goes brrr.
It'd be one thing if they used a German shepherd, but no they used a spitz. The package animal of the dog breed world.
Regardless bloody hounds are better at tracking and smelling. And a doberman holds the world record for longest tracking.

Just like it is with undomesticated animals. It be energetic, loving and chaotic fun but just might start eating you alive if you fall down. Just make everyone around you promise to not blame the wild dog if instincts happen and ensure it'll go into good hands after.

I find it so funny that tards fly into a rage as soon as someone with more wits then them actually puts them in their place on a topic they know nothing about. Society will truly collapse at the hands of illiterates and mongoloids who seethe at intelligent discourse.

They're dogs in the sense that they're a part of Canidae, that's it. They split off from the more the more wolf-like dogs 1.7 million years ago. They're not as distant as something like a tanuki or a maned wolf, but they're still genetically distant enough that they can't breed with wolves or domestic dogs.

You are saying that african wild dogs can't breed with domestic dogs?
              Got a source for that?

                Anonymous

Oddly enough, they have the right amount of chromosomes to do so, but the fact that a hybrid has never been recorded, especially with the amount of actual feral domestic dogs in Africa, means something has to make it impossible.

I suppose it could be something mechanistic? Maybe fertilization does happen but the puppy can't be birthed alive? I wonder if there was any research made on the subject, probably not.
Either way, that's super interesting, thank you for the info.

More likely, they don't consider dogs as mates and just eat them.

Yet there have been recorded instances of Lions successfully mating and having offspring with leopards (who they usually kill out of competition/sometimes eat), soooo.

                Anonymous

Wait seriously? I thought leopards and lions were WAY too far removed for that to work.

                Anonymous

Nope, leopards appeared in the fossil record only 900,000 years ago and descended directly from lions themselves. Also lions can easily hybridize with jaguars (one of the more basal members of Panthera)

African wild dogs are more closely related to dholes than the are to other canids so if the could hybridize with something it would be dholes. Neither species habitat overlap though.

Dholes had a ridiculous range before the Ice Age, and could be found from parts of Africa to as far as Mexico.

So calling them "dogs" is a misnomer. They should instead be called African wolves.

They're not really wolves either. They should instead be called canines of color.

Not that strong, their teeth are simply more sharp as an adaptation for hypercarnivory unlike than other more dog-esque canids like wolves and coyotes and, well, dogs. This also earns them the nickname "land piranhas" amongst some
