the left picture is a fucking screenshot from a modern video you morons, stop doomermoroning about dog breeds because dogshows are horrible places. fucking morons.
This. All domestication comes only with physical deficits. Anything that doesn't resemble a wolf is genuiely fucked up. If aliens ever come to invade earth they will use this examples to justify genociding humans, if they still have the need to do so.
I've seen too many hukies die of epilepsy, and too many labs die of cancer.
dogs are not toys, and they are not consumer products.
Whatever you think a dog should look like, recognize that's what the dog must live like.
Show breeding can help to preserve endangered breeds of dogs. Additionally, show breeders are usually very careful about inbreeding and only breed dogs that are healthy and have good temperaments. Show breeding also helps to standardize the appearance of a breed, which can be helpful for people who are looking for a specific type of dog. Finally, show breeding is not necessarily elitist; many show breeders are dedicated to making sure that their dogs are accessible to everyone, regardless of socio-economic status.
tldr: dog shows make sure dogs look the same forever or look increasingly ridiculous. they swear they’re careful about inbreeding and having to put your 7 year old dog down isnt a big deal.
>sheepdogs now after intense breeding for competition winning herding/working performance, not even looks >hip dysplasia (more likely if neutered) >idiopathic epilepsy >collie collapse disorder >multidrug sensitivity >progressive retinal atrophy >unexplained deafness >degenerative myelopathy >hypothyroidism >patent ductus arteriosus >collie eye anomaly, lens luxation, and retinal atrophy
"but my dog came from le champion working line nothing could go wrong because those are bred to be healthy not to win shows"
Well actually they are bred to win shows. Perhaps by working line, you meant farm dog mutts bred by people who can't afford the working line...
>Well actually they are bred to win shows. Perhaps by working line, you meant farm dog mutts bred by people who can't afford the working line... Perhaps by working line, you meant farm dog mutts bred by people who can't afford the working line...
Some of those "mutts" are worth 10 grand to the right bloke if they do a good job and he needs one in a hurry
This is why wise farmers breed and train their own dogs. Some of them have teams of like 8. Might be 80 thousand if you went to run out and buy them. Not that many people need that many but they will be different ages different stages of training etc if they run a big team. I watch a guy pay 14 thousand for a good huntaway after his worker buggered off and took his dogs with him
That's called having more money than sense. Things are valuable though if they can plug and play into a farm. And the funny thing is, if it was a farm/station bred thing, probably could have got it as puppy for 500 dollars. The value is the work it can do and a couple years training more than anything. At least that's the way it works in NZ. People don't go to "breeders" for working dogs they go to oh that's so and so's pup I saw him at the trials, he's one of old mates dogs who runs that big station hes got some good blood. I'll take one of those pups and train it. Unless they find themselves in the shit and suddenly unable to run their place because a key dog died or got injured or something, or their worker left and they realize he was doing all the heavy lifting on the dog work and had no other decent ones of their own, then they might have to spend some $
huskies have learned to play football! funny! cute!
they're still pretty much the same dog on the outside but show line inbreeding has increased the incidence of epilepsy, zinc malabsorption, hypothyroidism, four distinct eye diseases, and laryngeal paralysis. the only way to get epilepsy out of a bloodline is to cull the entire litter if it ever shows up and never use the parents again. breeders will never do this. if you want a husky as healthy as they used to be, you're free to ask some inuit fuck from siberia, or get one of the larger mutts from alaska that are no longer really huskies from generations of being crossed with every other sled dog breed and some that aren't even sled dogs. in fact, the ones in russia really don't look the same as the original batch the kennel clubs based their standards off of either.
just a reminder dogs aren't ruined just by making them physically diseased. even if your dog still looks the same as they did 100 years ago, breeders have likely ruined it in other ways !SPECIFICIALLY BECAUSE THEY WERE TRYING TO MAKE SURE IT LOOKED THE SAME!
show breeding is horrible even if the dog is still usable as a reference for your gay ass fursona
>sheepdogs now after intense breeding for competition winning herding/working performance, not even looks >hip dysplasia (more likely if neutered) >idiopathic epilepsy >collie collapse disorder >multidrug sensitivity >progressive retinal atrophy >unexplained deafness >degenerative myelopathy >hypothyroidism >patent ductus arteriosus >collie eye anomaly, lens luxation, and retinal atrophy

it's really weird because if you just browse working-dog.com you can clearly see a great deal of effort being put towards screening for disease and eliminating known carriers....
>you just browse working-dog.com you can clearly see a great deal of effort being put towards screening for disease and eliminating known carriers
It's almost as if working dogs are different from show dogs, Really makes you think.
Not even the same breed. Those are Eurohounds, one or two are Alaskan Huskies, none are Siberians. What you are doing is like comparing a Labrador to a Golden.
The top row of close eared cloned puffballs is siberians. The top right and bottom left “siberians” look like either mutts, alaskans, or just poorly conforming aka less inbred siberians.
>What you are doing is like comparing a Labrador to a Golden.
Still valid as long as there's an example of a show dog and working dog of either of these retriever breeds.
A LOT of working huskies look a lot like the show huskies, but have minor faults with wide ear set, excessive height and weight, etc. Not all of them are eurohounds. Those are specialized sprint race dogs. Alaskan huskies look like gsd/husky/malamute mixes and have to pull more weight, chukotka dogs look like husky/shibas and are general purpose village dogs.
>It's almost as if working dogs are different from show dogs, Really makes you think.
that's jsut a fancy URL and does not reflect WHO displays their dogs there like that. in fact, if anything, real working dog breeders are less likely to be presented there because they are older - on average. my point was, look up any dog and check the testing that was done on their parents/them.
it would be intredasting to actually see a study on iditarod-tard HUSKOID landrace dog health. I have a hunch they may not be as healthy as you would like imply here. especially in the second half of their lives. I'd say that iditarod-tards may be perfectly willing to accept degenerative disease in the second half of the dog's life if the performance was right in the first. that is baically what is going on here
>sheepdogs now after intense breeding for competition winning herding/working performance, not even looks >hip dysplasia (more likely if neutered) >idiopathic epilepsy >collie collapse disorder >multidrug sensitivity >progressive retinal atrophy >unexplained deafness >degenerative myelopathy >hypothyroidism >patent ductus arteriosus >collie eye anomaly, lens luxation, and retinal atrophy

- dogs have traits that are so valuable that they chose to breed them still even if those traits were genetically associated with (serious) disease.
My family’s last CHADSKY made it to 17 without issues. Impressive for a nearly 100lb dog.
>continues enjoying trolling a guy about his dead dog
yeah, what's next, going to china/korea to try some of their special dishes?
50kgs for a husky is XBOXHUEG. that's not an iditarod tier dog. most berners and GSDs are not that hueg. bernards are neither. dogs of a lean mean asshole apart ripping run machine physique of malinois proportions looks impressive as fuck at 30-35kgs. you'd really not want anything bigger. they have to be more lanky to maintain speed if they get a bit bigger like teh weimaraner does. and after that you are in greyhound territory anyway.
Sled dogs are bred for physical fitness. Way less specific than herding autism (a mental illness affecting prey drive) which allows for a broader gene pool of anything big and fluffy.
Not all breeders put forth the same effort. Not all disorders are fully understood and the only way to get rid of them is to make the dog look different or lose some of their highly specialized working behavior. You won’t see perfection in champion dogs, mostly just in mutts.
Some kiwi sled dogs while I'm at it, running a tourist thing in the southern alps
Hot

no need for such fowl language
im not posting my dogs because they still look great
based on the husky autism id say one or two anons own huskymutts
also someone has a boxer mutt and another one used to have a collie
i hate humans so much

You would be both poor and dead without it Mr contrarian
Stop cherry picking
The akc is a total travesty
I used to have a mastiff that looked just like left
I've seen too many hukies die of epilepsy, and too many labs die of cancer.

I need to walk my pup, I'll be back soon.
This is false. Italian Cane Corsos are not different than regular Cane Corsos. They are both large dogs that were bred for hunting large game.
The only difference is that the Italian Cane Corso is a little bit more expensive because people believe in bloodline none sense.
>Inb4 muh euro bloodline is better than ameribloodline
Reality: Italian breeders breed their Cane Corsos for certain breed faults that can be replicated anywhere irrespective of the country.
French Mastiff
Disgusting what humans have done to dogs over generations. They shouldn’t have droopy wrinkly faces or floppy ears

Someone once paid $25k for a border collie.

Yes but its more like
>show retriever: golden
>working retriever: field lab
Field goldens exist

which is why if you search “alaskan husky” you get a bunch of spitz mutts
>spitz mutts
Better than some inbred dog with papers
>Search alaskan husky
>not sure 100% which ones are alaskan huskies because they all look totally different
