Boars

anyone who has an opinion/experience with these beasts?
I just went out for a smoke and encountered one ~10m from my house, it did not piss off upon seeing me and now I'm a little scared.

During a hunt me my uncle and three others all shot a boar dead on disemboweling it, the guy kept running and killed a dog, found it dead like 3km away

I live in a city where boars use sidewalks and street crossings. They are chill unless you actively try to provoke them.

They're dangerous as frick. Basically wolves that scavenge more, but they can still hunt. Equally smart as well, but less cooperative. That can be a good thing because 12 pigs won't gang up and tear you apart, they'd rather eat their own children. But they're so fricking big that one pig is all it takes to kill you and the females (very protective) travel in groups of 2 or 3 with their children.

You also really shouldn't hunt them unless you intend to kill all of them because the remaining pigs become dog shy/gun shy. Using dogs is actually the worst unless they're meant to be there naturally! Dogs single out one pig and the rest of the sounder gets away and becomes harder to hunt.

I couldn't hunt them even if I wanted to because I live in central Europe.
The funniest thing is that i heard the boar before I saw it, it was like someone eating incredibly noisily. I'm fairly certain it was a male and it seemed to be alone, so I'm hoping it was just passing through. Honestly, Frick these. First time I was scared of an animal.

It's better for you to stay blissfully unaware of how close you were to getting torn apart.

The thing is: I'm getting very conflicting information regarding these. My Grandfather who is a Hunter says they are dangerous as frick, but the rest claims they are easily spooked and mostly harmless. Today was the first time I saw one and I'm shook at how big and unphased that fricker was - I always thought of them as rather compact.

I mean, most boars will probably try to avoid you, but do you really wanna be the guy who gets to meet the outlier?

I think it might be a great idea to buy pepper spray so that I would be able to help myself in an emergency. It seems they're getting more common here.

you'll need aerosol drain cleaner at the minimum.

            there already are.
the goverment made it illegal to hunt them and forces your children to adopt their culture.

It depends on the area. They are not dumb. If for the last 200 years every shepherd that saw them chased them down with his dogs on his way home cut their throat and threw them on the back of his horse for dinner then they aren't going to want to have much to do with humans. But large ones can certainly be dangerous without some backup

Eh, I spent my childhood near a forest, and every fricking morning, two or three of these frickers were at our door. They ARE dangerous, but chill. Don't provoke them and you'll be fine, mostly.
      Also they taste great.
