I scrolled through the article hoping to see something like "while working on population control/hunting animals that were threatening nearby humans" or literally any remotely reasonable justification other than "fuck it", but nope, just killed it for fun
>or literally any remotely reasonable justification other than "fuck it", but nope, just killed it for fun
They're going to eat it and turn it into leather, anon. You might as well bitch about someone shooting a big buck.
there are alligator farms specifically for that purpose. Why the fuck would you go out if your way to kill a record setting creature? Take pictures and study it, don't kill it
They probably didn't know it was a record setter 'til after they caught and weighed/measured it, and just so you know women aren't really welcome here.

As others pointed out, alligators are taken as a food source. Like deer their meat isn't widely available in stores outside of a few states where it's sold as kind of a local gimmick.

As others pointed out, alligator farms exist.
Unless in an area or sanctuary where numbers have to be controlled via culling (not the case here, as stated previously) there is no real reason to do this stupid shit.

There are millions of alligators in Mississippi. Literally. It's not a big deal if a couple hundred are taken for meat every year. Reading doesn't seem to be your wheelhouse but if you would skim the article for key words you would see they didn't realize exactly how big the animal was while in the process of catching it. They just knew it was "big."

deer isn't a keystone species that also builds alligator holes that are important for an entire ecosystem. Deer does need constant culling unless you introduce predators, alligators self regulate based on prey and territory availability

It's a big alpha male. Kill one and another one will replace him.
