Being an animal lover sucks

You're reminded every day that the biosphere is dying, and nobody gives a frick. You're constantly permeated by a sense of dread and powerlessness. If you get a job in the field your superior empathy makes you prone to depression.

Also if i feel bad all the time and you don't, if i overthink and you don't, yes it does make me more empathic than you. I'm not vegan either. I eat fish and cheese and "free range eggs".
But you're here jerking off in public and crying about how much animal suffering hurts your heart.
You can make yourself feel better by quitting chicken and pork for starters. You can taste the factory-farmed cruelty, misery and despair in every sad, fatty mouthful.
Or you can just go on actively perpetuating the same animal cruelty and suffering that you claim to be so upset about.
It's up to you. It's a free country. For most of us humans, at least.
        >yes it does make me more empathic than you. I can assure you it's not a superpower, it's a fricking cross

Or are you just gatekeeping me into not eating animals anymore? That i can't do, i'm deeply sorry for them but i gotta eat. Plus i reason from an ecologist perspective, and wild animals will always outweight domestic animals in value. And as far as butchering is concerned, i'm not from one of those thirdie countries that kill slowly cause it's halal, so as long as the animal dies immediatly, which it usually does, i don't see any form of cruelty.

Biosphere isn't "dying" it's just going through a mass species extinction. Thing is, you know what always, 100% without fail follows mass species extinctions? Species explosions as whatever "wins" a given niche post-die-out will then specialize and evolve.

Sucks to lose cool animals because Indonesians cut down their forests to avoid abject poverty, Chinese won't stop eating everything, etc. But eventually there will be six hundred versions of European honey bee across the globe to replace all the extinct pollinators.

      Anonymous

      >mass species extinction
There are many extinctions ongoing, but we are not facing a mass extinction event yet. That would imply that the bottom rung of the food web is gone and everything is really fricked.
When the more robust animals and plants are dying en masse, then shit will actually be fricked.
Until then, we're mostly just losing megafauna that can't share space and very niche species which were always in precarious positions. Which still sucks, because that's a lot of cool animals that will be gone for good when they die out and it will still damage the biosphere. Plus it's debatable if we'll even be alive by the time speciation starts blooming new replacements for old niches, because the entirety of human civilization has happened in a span of 10,000 years and that is a geological blink of an eye in the grand scheme of things. So when we tell ourselves "don't worry bro, there will be new species to come," that's going to happen long after anyone alive today and in the next few hundred generations of humans have died out.

The worst thing to happen to conservation work was climate change alarmism. Takes a ton of funding that mostly subsidizes greenwashing, provides very little to no direct results in best case, and leaves a lot of people who would otherwise get involved too demotivated to try

The climate lobby is such a giant fricking scam and it's basically an entire industry in itself at this point, fueled by parties who don't actually give a shit about environmentalist causes. And they foster a cult attitude to boot, so if you question them, you're just branded as someone who doesn't actually care about the environment (even though you may have legitimate grievances like why the frick are we clearing part of a forest to put in these inefficient wind turbines).
And it suck out all the oxygen in the room, so nobody wants to discuss issues which directly impact the environment like rampant and reckless land development or the landfill issue or the decline in water quality even in remote environments. We're listening too much to "what if sea levels rise in 40 - 50 years" that we're doing nothing to develop solutions for problems which are affecting our environments at present.

say what you want but i'm currently experiencing the third unnaturally dry year in a row coupled with projected unnaturally hot summers. we're in a drought situation since 2021 and the last rain was a drizzle two weeks ago, and before that the last rains were almost a month before. i'm losing my fricking mind over it and morons like you brazenly being contrarians and refusing to aknowledge what the entire fricking scientific community has been saying for decades makes my blood boil.
who are you anyway? meteorologists? modelists? ecologists? you're nobody. until you prove me you're right you'll still remain tinfoil hats, and nothing more.

Cope and seethe. 3 years is nothing in the bigger picture. Cry your eyes out, but nature will find a way, you won't make the difference.

3 years, now that's a statistic to hold on to and demand others to change their lives for. 3 years back to back, unnaturally dry. Same here man. It's been dry for a few years now. But underground water levels are rising- and the soil remains wet for longer.

Nature and climate aren't preprogrammed to mirror your source's numbers. It changes, from year to year.

The frick are you talking about? That's false, that's absolutely false. The soil has never been drier, with the asphalts preventing what little water comes from trickling in the aquifer. Plants are in serious stress and just in front of my house they cut 6 trees because they didnt survive the heat wave of the last year. You don't know shit, you just try to find excuses because you can't admit to yourself that you're wrong

That's funny because this past year has given my state more rain than I've seen in the past decade. Weather fluctuates, the only thing that isn't normal is "normal" weather. I don't doubt that climate change is happening to come extent, but you can't deny that the climate change alarmism has become a fricking commodity at this point. First world countries are not the problem, yet we spend billions trying to cut a fraction of a percentage of our emissions while China and India spews as much shit as they want into the air, and good luck trying to stop them. Meanwhile our rivers fill with trash. It's a joke.

You profess yourself as experts yet ignore the fact that local carbon management greatly influences the weather on a regional scale. Yet you readily unsheathe your whataboutism and say "why improve when china and india are shitting the emipshere up?"

All I'm saying is the money could be used much more effectively doing other things instead of lining the pockets of alarmists. Like building nuclear power plants instead of wind turbines and solar panels, both of which require tons of land to be effective and require regular replacement.

              Anonymous

First of all, at no point did I say "climate change isn't real." What I have issue with is the bodies presiding over the current course of environmentalism due to their inefficiencies, their lack of oversight, their misplaced priorities, and their embedded corruption.
Secondly, what a shitty example. A three year drought could be any number of factors. Regions experience environmental effects on a regular basis over the course of months or years. Your analog evidence could easily be countered by another person saying "the weather's been constant in my area for three years" or "it's been wet in my area for three years." And you have the fricking gall to ask for credentials when all you have is your own limited experience.
Maybe instead of getting angry at people who don't even live in your area, you should question your local government's water policies, to whom all the local water sources are being allocated toward, and contemplate on that.

              >"unnaturally hot summers"
lmao, look at you with the goldfish memory. It's not even the hottest overall climate in the past 1000 years or the past 2000. Roman Warm Period, Medieval Warm period; it's almost like we're exiting an ice age or something.

And then there's the fact this wasn't supposed to be a warm period. Back in the 70's and 80's the scientific consensus was that there was a 'coming ice age', due to various pollutants blocking sunlight. Why did they think this? Because smog in LA and London was a huge concern. Not everywhere, just major cities. But oh no, it's gonna destroy the planet. Of course, now those same theories are claimed by the current alarmist crowd to have never existed. That's right. Lenard Nimoy didn't narrate a whole segment on the coming ice age, oops wait I have the footage:

What we know about the roman summers is that they were rainy and tepid, it was the winters that became unusually mild for more than 700 years. Compared to today's weather when you have long periods of aridity with extreme phenomena inbetween, they are way more favourable.
                >muh goldfish memory

Dude, the entire argument of 'anthropogenic climate change' is that the climate is changing too rapidly for it to be natural. Meanwhile, we see wild swings in climate just across recorded history - which YES is a short amount of time. A drop in the bucket. But we're supposed to ignore that and focus exclusively on the here and now, ignoring every event and claim prior. That's the textbook definition of a pseudoscience. No debate, no skepticism, no alternative theories. Just 'listen and believe'.
