Asian giant hornets

Do these things have any useful purpose?

Well they can keep the honeybee population down.

Honeybees are invasive when they get transplanted to a different country and can get overly abundant, diminishing the numbers of native bees. There are never enough hornets, Asian giant or otherwise, to eradicate all honeybees, so they merely keep honeybee population down to a level that lets other bees flourish.

Remember that you need native bees. Honeybees are not buzz-pollinators, so they are incapable of pollinating potatoes, commercial-grade tomatoes, cranberries, and a bunch of other crops, not to mention non-crop flowering plants like nightshade (for all you Datura abusers out there).

Not sure about them but their smaller asian cousins are polinators. Even if dangerous as fuck ones (their sting is horrible I've tried it)

one time i tortured one of these fuckers and it did not die for like, 3 days. i had it to where it was immobile and just twitching and moving its antennae and locked it in an airtight container. ffw 8 hours still not dead so i bring it with me to a punk show. it gets rattled around a bunch and exposed to punk music. then i get home with it and it’s still not dead so i open the lid and spray half a can of my friend’s hairspray on it. didn’t do a fucking thing but slow it down a bit and cement everything but its legs to the container. next day it was still moving its legs and antennae. day after that it finally stopped moving but i couldnt get it out of the container because like i said the hairspray cemented it

The lord in his infinite wisdom gave us something to pour all of our combined fury into in the place of our fellow man.

To unite his children into a singular fraternity against the purest form that hatred for all on life earth which he could possibly render.

But then that part of the bible was expunged by the early catholic church.

Because it's description was too fantastic to be imagined possible.

    yes

they have lots of useful purposes if you're the sort of teleologists that cares about that sort of thing.

the biggest purpose though is probably making you wonder about purpose in biology.

in short, biology in general has no purpose

and if you think an animal has a purpose, you're fucking wrong. It has causes, not purposes.

dogs have no purpose, they only have causes

humans may assign a purpose to a dog, but that's just projection. The dog itself has no intrinsic purpose.
        only causes.

if humans went extinct now, a dog's purposes would immediately disappear. Because the purposes aren't real. They're human inventions.

all purposes in fact are human inventions. We view things teleologically. We assign purpose.
Animals have no purpose. Humans have no purpose. If humans go away, nothing has a purpose. Because nothing actually has a purpose. That's a human invention.

If most people understood that reality has no purpose, they would shrivel up and die. They can't live without the concept of purpose.

But that fact also has no purpose. There is no purpose to believing in purpose and living just as there is no purpose in doubting purpose and dying. Purpose does not exist simply because OP believes in it, nor does it exist simply because doubting it will kill OP.

if purpose exists, then asian hornets have lots of it

probably more than OP, who is an anonymous nobody who nobody will ever care about. While asian hornets are a hot topic all over the world.

but in reality neither asian hornets nor OP has a purpose. Just as this post has no purpose. Because purpose isn't real. It's merely an expression of human desires, which are fleeting and ephemeral as humans themselves.

every purpose in the word dies when you die.

You assign yourself no purpose then? That's what I'm reading from all this shit. Why don't you find a purpose for yourself.

                I don't need a purpose

how it works is you realize you have no purpose, and that almost kills you. But it doesn't kill you because life doesn't need a purpose to go on eating and fucking and sleeping and stuff.

then you get into zen buddhism and you're all good.

You have no purpose. I have purpose. I do not care if you agree with me. I suggest you find something useful to do with your life.

                Try giving back to others

                You have no purpose either

You are a parasitic organism that attempts to program others with its behavior so more will give to it than it will give to others

There is no purpose to this. It accomplishes nothing of objective importance because there is no such thing as importance. Convincing other organisms to give in order to arrange an asymetrical giving arrangement is a self-replicating behavior therefore it is widespread. Like fire spreads because releasing energy from matter can cause other matter to break down.

if you want to assign me a purpose,

my purpose is to tell you neither of us has a purpose.

it's a good purpose, but not a real purpose.
