Yes. The little homies are higher than usual levels of violent and aggressive with the strength of an ogre and extremely high intelligence.
There is a reason all the chimps in movies aren't mature since they enter monster mode at around that age.

I feel like there is a lot of anti chimp propaganda in recent years, this thread surely part of it. I wonder who could be behind this. Anyway, I don't believe any of your chimp slander and I will always be friendly to our closest living relatives.

    >Chimpanzees are attacking people in Uganda, part of a disturbing trend going on in the country that has led to crop loss and even death. National Geographic reports that the problem has been going on for several years, citing an incident in 2014 that saw a chimp fatally attack a 2-year-old child, stealing the baby from his mother. “A chimpanzee came in the garden as I was digging,” Ntegeka Semata said in an interview with the publication. She noted that her four young children were with her and as she turned her back to get water, the chimp took her child by the hand and ran off.

    >The child screamed, which caused the other villagers to pay attention and chase after him, but it was too late. “It broke off the arm, hurt him on the head, and opened the stomach and removed the kidneys,” Semata continued, adding that the child died on the way to the local hospital.

Yes. We oughta get rid of Chimpanzees, Baboons and Mandrils. Let's release a sizable colony of able bodied pygmies with spears into chimp territory

I heard a story about a woman who would go visit chimps at a sanctuary almost daily. She would sit with one with glass between them and they would smile at each other. She thought she had made a connection with this chimp. Something happened one day and the chimp escaped around the time the woman came for her visit and he mauled her. I can't remember if she died or not. Turns out that smiling has a different meaning for chimps than it does for humans.

They only do it in captivity so they're likely just saying 'frick you' to the onlookers

The only reason people say chimps are crazy was because a chimp named Travis got in one little fight and his owner got scared and called the police which led to him getting shot.

    Rest In Peace Travis

I wouldn't call them psychotic just as I wouldn't call a snake, a tiger, or a cat psychotic. Are they fricking scary? Yeah. Chimps don't have the capacity to understand their actions or what they do, and are just as brutal and vicious as any other animal when threatened, hungry, horny, or just looked at sideways. The thing that makes chimps particularly scary is that people see a bit of ourselves (other apes) in them, and also how smart they are, so they go about their deeds in ways that seem creative, brutal, etc. I think part of what makes people think they're psychos is a lack of understanding that apes aren't "more human" than other animals. Of course they're apes, like us, but they're still animals. Assigning them a level of humanity makes them seem much worse when they act in the way many other animals do. But anyone keeping a chimp as a pet is fricking stupid.

If you consider their social behaviour and motivations, as well as their DNA, they're much closer to us than to snakes. They don't just commit violence out of hunger and fear, they can do it out of jealousy and revenge for petty things. The violence also seems more coordinated than just biting and slamming, as they often fixate on small body parts.
Compare that to gorilla Bokito's zoo escape. He violently attacked a woman but the things he did weren't meant to cause permanent damage.

If baboons were the size of chimps (they actually were back then like dinopithecus) they would be considered the most vicious of all monkeys.

chacma baboons look like werewolves, too.
it makes you wonder if the stories of werewolves came from escaped or released baboons owned by nobles of the time.

Not really. Their violent tendencies are mostly exaggerated by reddit souled people. Just like cassowaries aren't so dangerous and wasps aren't literally demons. Every high profile chimp on human attack was because someone tried to keep one in their house like a little person.

Don't feed chimps because they will come to expect it, then if someone comes by and doesn't feed them, they will take it as a sign of defiance and rip your race off.
Consequently if you feed one because you know it, but not another, they will rip your face off.

Is this "as bad as they say?"
