Are there any ill-effects(direct and indirect) to letting Spiders live in your house?

Any Spider experts here? Do spiders carry any parasites, or diseases that are harmful to humans? Or can they indirectly cause harm because of the dust, dead bugs and germs being collected on their webs? My wife wants me get rid of the spider webs in the house, I let them stay because they catch flies, wasps and other bugs. Should I do some cleaning?

They’re a net positive. I’m more desensitized than most because the house I grew up in was absolutely teeming in brown recluse. If you can learn to live with that, you can tolerate just about any spider, considering most of the others you’ll find in your home are benign. They help kill pests. What’s not to like?

    >be teenage me
    >gf is visiting
    >lightheartedly nagging me about laundry basket of clothes I haven’t put away
    >basket has been chilling in the basement for weeks
    >I instinctively know
    >she unfolds a pair of shorts
    >frickhuge brown recluse on side opposite her
    >she can’t see it
    >calmly requesting she put it down to avoid her throwing the shorts at me in panic
You get a sense for these things. I never put shoes on without socks, and I shake the everloving shit out of any clothes that have been near the floor before I wear them.

Let them live because they get rid of mosquitoes, I feel bad whenever I accidentally kill one with my vacuum cleaner

Their old webs gather dust, probably something about allergens

carnivorous bugs are great to have in the house, this includes both spiders and centipedes. just don't live somewhere tropical and you're golden.

    No
    >Or can they indirectly cause harm because of the dust, dead bugs and germs being collected on their webs?
    No
    >Should I do some cleaning?
Yes, but that doesn’t necessitate getting rid of them. A dusty web is an abandoned one

      >Yes
Any specific reason? Also, how do I know which ones are abandoned?

        To have a clean house
        >Also, how do I know which ones are abandoned

A couple years ago I stopped killing spiders in my house, they were chill and took care of any silverfish. But then because I had a surplus of spiders, I ended up with a bunch of centipedes snacking on the spiders. I do not frick with centipedes so since then I unfortunately do not allow spiders to stick around

you just need to introduce some geckos to the house ecosystem, they will take care of any surplus spiders and centipedes

And, what takes care of the geckos then?

I took centipedes out of my house and put foam in the door gap so I don't have centipedes anymore. Then I realized I should have kept one as pet so I can unleash it when I leave for a vacation or something. so they can exterminate wienerroaches or something but I never found a wienerroach here so I guess it is fine anyway. I don't bother the spiders but I fear they might not have enough food as I rarely see any bug here. Do baby spiders eat microscopic mites? I can't see anything they could be eating over here. Even the drain flies disappeared since it is too cold now.

If the webs are filled with debris, go ahead and take them down while being careful not to damage the spider. If the occupant is already dead, that’s now prime real estate for a new spider. Normally they’d clean up themselves and throw the old mess on the ground, with many that make a new web daily, but some species intentionally have a messy web as camo or lures.

Is that it. I am immune to spider venom, so I don't really care about that. Any other problems?
