Are mushrooms the future?

I keep hearing how you can produce building material, food, clothing and use them to clean up toxic waste of all kinds.
So why aren't these rushed out onto the production stage on a laaarge scale so that more countries and companies can adopt them?
They seem extremely useful and all...

On top of the practical reasons, you have a lot more overhead than an established process like injection molded foam packaging and plastic bags that are dirt cheap to produce and can be made on demand.
