Are indoor cats bored/depressed?

I adopted two cat brothers that got mistreated and because of that they will just eat anything they find. I have seen them eating plastic and the like. So the vet recommended keeping them at home. So my question is: will they suffer because of that? I read online that its okay and they will be healthier but im wondering on some other opinions. I do have a balcony and i got them some scratch trees.

pic related is one of them

Sure they'd rather be outside, but as long as they have shit to play with and stuff to climb they'll be alright. The little c**ts spend most of the time sleeping anyway

As long as the cat is properly stimulated it'll be fine. Try playing with them 1 hour a day to make them burn extra energy (best moment is at dawn) that also keeps them from annoying the frick out of you later.

Fix your fricking cat tree you lazy frick. The cats can't scratch a scratching post if it's just bare tube.

put a cat tree by a window and dangle a string in front of it for a few minutes each day and your cats will have more enrichment than their little walnut brains can ever handle

Thanks for taking care of these two poor souls, and please have pantience if they'll exhibit annoying behaviors, pets with traumas are difficult to deal with.
Enrich the environment with more scratching posts and shelves (I see you already have a cat tree) and have fun making DIY toys they can play with, don't forget to save some time to play with them every day. Bonding with the humans is important.

its your job as their owner to keep them entertained. buy and/or make new toys for them and play with them multiple hours every day

yeah i already got some toys they seem to like. So if i engage them they can live a fulfilled live, despite staying indoors (+balcony for birdwatching)?

        Yes

People in mexico have outdoor dogs based on your same concerns. They’re depressed if you don’t play with them. Mexicans also believe dogs are filthy and don’t belong indoors because they would never take care of them, just like people that use shallow litter boxes full of gravel placed strategically in the kitchen.

Dogs are as filthy as people. If you allow them to be, and make no attempt to fix the problem.

You can keep a dog clean and implore them to avoid dirt. It's just beyond stupider people to do so, just like they think gravel litter paws on their countertops are just part of owning a cat. The perception of dogs as filthy animals is pretty much a subhuman thirdie and animal-neglecting ruralcuck thing.

All things being equal cats and dogs are equally dirty or equally clean. You just notice mud on the outside more than dried spit on the outside concealing worked in mud on the inside.

Dogs will shit and piss everywhere and not give a frick. Cats have enough sense to keep their mess in one spot

Ahh yes, my neighbor's cat has apparently chosen my garden as that one spot.

My dog is particular about where she does her business and most importantly, it’s never in my fricking house and I don’t have to choose between scooping up piss and shit *in my home* and my pet living 2 to 4 years on average roaming outside.

I tried a self cleaning litterbox. its just more surfaces to scrub cat sewage off of.

You're only thinking about visual cleanliness. There's a reason "wet dog" is a disgusting smell but the only negative cat small is unspayed cat marking.

                >wet dog is a disgusting smell
Wet dog smells fine. You probably think a dog's natural scent is disgusting.

All cats smell like century old piss dust and their licking does them 0 good.

It’s a cilantro situation mixed with autism. People seem to be completely repulsed by the scent of dog or liken it to some kind of plant, but only people who are obvious weirdos either way. Normies give zero fricks about dog odors.

Wet dog should only smell bad if your dog also rolled in shit, then it’s actually residual shit smelling when moistened. Keeping dogs out of shit is trivial so it shouldn’t smell like anything desirable or undesirable unless you’re a hypersensitive freak.
