Agreed here, even like a few days of debilitating illness or a quick death is better than the current. However humans have no poison or natural weapons and we still find ways to be fuckers, most likely same with animals

from an evolutionary perspective it's pretty beneficial it's that way, you have a lot more incentive to avoid painful cruel deaths than quick painless deaths where you dont even realize it's over
