    >her
Thats part of it right there OP. Male cats in general tend to be more affectionate and close to their owners while lady cats tend to be a bit more aloof.
Which isn't to say you can't have a queen that is an absolute sweetie or a tom who is a wienerbag.
But yeah, cats is cats, you've got to appreciate and approach them on their own terms. Thats sort of the fun of having those creepy weirdo aliens as pets.

    >adopt her
Well, thats the issue. YOU dont chose a cat, cat chooses YOU. However, sometimes cat can have PTSD or some disorder and will be very unsocial/antisocial, and so you end up with a situation like that.
Idk how to manage that, because my cat loves me and i love her very much. Again, let the cat pick you.

All animals are like this. Even a chosen human or dog will never really love you, not for years. The feline lack of adaptability just makes it severe. They can’t hold a facade.

Its true. My cat doesnt like my mom. Used to hiss at her. But kinda calmed down and now just runs away from her or avoids her. Kitty loves sleeping on my bed and on me though - uses me as a chaise.

    >Dump grainfree kibble in a bowl every few days.
    >Refill water when it's empty.
    >Throw sticks.
    >Call her stupid.
    >Harass and rub my face on her.
    >In return she: Loves, plays, and curls up in my lap every morning before I get ready for work.
There's nothing inherently wrong with adopted cats, and in concept adopting is the right thing to do, but too many rescue cats have already had shit lives leading to shit temperaments.

    >greet cats every time i visit and don't interact with them until they show interest

Your own pet disliking you shows that you have no social skills and/or thought you were buying a living toy to entertain you

Are you actually interacting with her often or are you just giving her the best shit and expecting her to like you?

Whenever she lets me touch her. She likes to set next to me whole i am working on my laptop. She losses interest in her toys fast and unlike the other younger cats I've had, she hates when i play with her using my hands

I barely do any of that for my cat and he loves the shit out of me. Might be your submissive demeanor. Cats tend to be abusive towards betas, not unlike women.

I don't think thats the reason. I treat cats like i treat my women, i don't too attached or dependent on either and also doesn't expect much in return. But this one is being an ungrateful b***h

op are you reading her social cues correctly? it surprises me how many people try treating a cat exactly like a dog and then are surprised when they dont respond the same way

      >op are you reading her social cues correctly?
Yeah, not my first cat, but the first adult cat. She's super relaxed around me, kneeding my shit rubbing against me n all. She would follow me around the house and when i set down to do something, she would keep a 1 meter distance from me.

        >She is British
there you have it. she'll follow you around, rub and "help" you with things, both by staring at you doing them and mimicing (like digging up seeds you just planted) but she won't sit in your lap. she might sleep on you or sit between you and the laptop.
        is she friendly/playfully biting?
she shouldn't hiss though. does she have bad human experiences?

Probably, i know nothing about the previous owner

she sounds really chill so why arent you happy

          >she sounds really chill so why arent you happy
I can only pet 15% of her body, i just don't feel the connection. Plus she is way too dramatic, she thinks being picked up is a good enough reason for her to be scared and hide for few days

          >she would keep a 1 meter distance from me.
          thats just how they are.
you pet them for a while, they then walk a metre away from you and lie down.

these somewhat contradict each other unless you elaborate. she gets close to you but bites if you touch?
some cats don't sit in your lap, for instance british shorthairs are very independent and anti-snuggly.

Nah, she's allowed to leave any time, i live in the second floor and the way down from the balcony isn't hard to climb down, moreover, my apartment is quite spacious. I won't get a dog because i dont wanna annoy my neighbours with its barking

we get kittens. adult cats are a crapshoot for two reasons.

one, cats are borderline asocial, very unintelligent, and unable to adapt quickly. morons mistake this for not being domesticated but a wildcat would be even worse. the best experience is had when they bond with you as a kitten because their only real strong social bond is the one they have with their mother. even a typically loving purebred cat will be abrasive to deal with if you get some abandoned and likely traumatized adult.

two, there's a cat-cultist culture around (especially in the UK) that involves having a bunch of unneutered cats roaming around outdoors. this totally random and natural selection reverses some of domestications accomplishments so you end up with the cat equivalent to a husky, shiba inu, or dingo. genuinely less domestic, more "mature" and independent, and not genetically inclined to love and cuddle you all the time. domestication is making something more childlike so it acts like a kitten/puppy its whole life. free-breeding landraces are nothing more than a slightly dumber, less aggressive, and significantly less skittish version of the wild animal. if you get one of these even as a kitten it might not even like you and would definitely not like anyone else.

I'm pretty sure cats are a mammal that has devolved to the mental level of a lizard. Solitary hunters gotta conserve calories and the brain is the first thing that goes. That's also why wolves and hyenas are smart as frick, and lions are smarter than their peers, but foxes, mongoose, and tigers really aren't that bright.
