Birds are living dinosaurs, so we can assume most if not all dinosaurs were feathered the same way mammals have fur. Larger dinosaurs (similar to elephants unless in winter regions) would be more scaley. It's common sense really.

      Anonymous

Exactly. Feathers must have evolved way before birds in slow and small steps. They didn't just appear out of nowhere in the Avialae clade, full fledged with all the modern structures and with the shape fully adapted for flight. Feathered dinosaurs are just common evolutionary sense.

In fact, I will go on as far to say that we underfeather dinosaurs in media/ paleo art and they were more feathered than we thought.

it's just so much more than that. The feather accusations are just one more attempt at undermining traditional dinosaurs and western masculinity.
Tyrannosaurus Rex was scaly and formed nuclear families with one partner for life. They offered parental care and formed enduring, racially aware dynasties. They did honorable battle with other theropods and carnivores, mostly ignoring herbivores. Homosexuality and effeminacy were not tolerated, weakness was reviled. Tyrannosaurs had a complex society, all males who failed to live up to its expectations were executed and buried in the bog to prevent their souls from reincarnating and polluting the volk. But in the end the forces of degeneration finally won, many dinosaurs emerged which began to have feathers, lips, nontraditional family units, homosexuality, etc. So the last Tyrannosaurs summoned the meteor to end their own era and leave room for another race to grow.

Why are some people so deranged over dinosaurs having feathers? Do they think birds miraculously developed feathers in isolation from other dinosaurs?

We've had a clear path to feathers in birds for over 150 years, and also 150 years of skin impressions that say "dinosaurs had scales, no feathers". Then, miraculously, out of China there is suddenly feathered dinosaurs. Really makes you go HMMMMMM. Either the fossil record miraculously changed, or recent "evidence" is a hoax.

Xu Xing isn't the only dude who found feathered dinosaurs. Either it's a coalition of paleontologists, together with China's government (because they would know the truth behind over a hundred of fake fossils in their own new shiny museum).
But the other thing is: feathered dinosaurs are also being found in Mongolia and Russia, by western paleontologists. And now some of them are being found in other continents as well. Are they in the conspiracy as well? What is everyone gaining from it?

It's like the flat earth theory. Some schizos believe that the "round earth" is a conspiracy made by Nasa. But their whole theory goes down the toilet once you tell them there's more space organizations around the world, and for keeping such a secret, basically all the world governments must be together in the conspiracy, and everything just loses it's purpose. How such a big hoax is even sustainable? How are so many people in this and nobody leaks anything? If everyone is in it, what is everyone actually gaining from it?

Decide yourself, schizo. Either Xu Xing is being benefited alone to become the single most revolutionary paleontologist in China and eventually in the world, or China's government + chinese paleontologists + some western paleontologists are all in some deep conspiracy to convince people that dinosaurs have feathers for whatever reason.

              >What would chinese paleontologists gain by creating a false narrative of feathered dinosaurs?
Why would a communist dictatorship with a massive inferiority complex want to be seen as making numerous very important discoveries? Are you seriously even asking that? The Chinese lie about everything. They claim to have invented about a thousand things they didn't. They insist that films pander to their national pride by inserting scenes where the best in any given field is Chinese. They publish millions of fake academic papers (everyone else does too, but the Chinese are especially notorious for it). Their entire society runs on bullshit.
Really, the only reason to trust any research or discovery coming out of China is if it would be impractical to fake. I'm leaning towards their feathered fossils all being real simply because I can't see any way they could be convincingly faked and they have been examined by outsiders (it's possible they are bad fakes and people just go along with it, but that seems unlikely even with Chinese exerting a lot of social pressure to ignore evidence; some fake fossils have been called out as fake, so it seems likely at least one person would have pointed out any obvious flaws).
But the moment someone shows me a way to cast things in authentic looking rock, I'm going to consider all of it fricking suspect.
Also, people keep saying 'feathers' and drawing bird-like feathers, but the evidence actually seems to show mostly porcupine-like bristles as far as I can tell. Probably evolved from the same structure as feathers, but not necessarily looking anything like what we think of when that word is used.

                >I'm leaning towards their feathered fossils all being real simply because I can't see any way they could be convincingly faked and they have been examined by outsiders
All of the weird paranoia aside, this is my main point.
I can see Xu Xing or the chinese government lying for their own benefits. But I can't see how so many paleontologists around the world are being convinced by the fossils for more than 20 years, especially when everyone became cautious over bird-like dinosaur fossils after the "Archeroraptor" fiasco (and the hoax was discovered after just a single year after the announcement). The fake fossils can't be as convincing.

Paleontologists need grant money, and they can't get grant money if they say "well I'm going to go out and dig up some more old bones." They have to say shit like "we're on the cutting edge of archaeological discovery, we're digging up fossils that paint an entirely new picture of dinosaurs! More active, more birdlike than we ever imagined!"

This guy finally gets it. It's kind of amazing how few actual biologists there are on Wauf. STEM is an insufferable group of fields. 99/100 modern """""scientists""""" are reddit tier morons who don't actually understand their own field but understand how to worship the bureaucracy that keeps them financially afloat.

There are literally papers written on how the chinese fake fossils.

                See: https://www.jpaleontologicaltechniques.org/pasta3/JPT%20N2/Pdf/JPT_n002_Jul.pdf

Additionally, those "porcupine quills" you keep seeing are likely plant remains misidentified as "feathers". This is probably true of Tianyulong, Psittacosaurus AND Longisquama (which are probably fern fronds in the latter case). None of these animals even have bristles. It's just plant debris. See:

Funny how they never say this when they find plant remains they claim are "feathers" isn't it?

                >it's possible they are bad fakes and people just go along with it, but that seems unlikely
Oh you poor thing. The entire history of the life sciences for the past good 30 years is one of fraud, sloppy methodology and nepotism to advance careers over actual quality research. At this point, it's MORE likely any new paper on dinosaurs will be loaded with bullshit rather than new discoveries.

Feathered. They have some scales, but most birds do.

I believe there is a difference between rows of filament running down an animal's back and an isolated patch of scales. It could be from Utahraptor, as like modern birds it likely still had scales on some areas. It could even be from a part of the body where feathers should be, disproving Utahraptor being feathered. However, these are just possibilities. To use this find to say that Utahraptor was scaly despite it's closest relatives being feathered is about as schizo as saying Tyrannosaurus was feathered despite it's closest relatives being scaly.

                >I believe there is a difference between rows of filament running down an animal's back and an isolated patch of scales.
None of these animals actually have a row of back filaments. They're just intentionally misidentified plant debris.

"ixerin" was the Furaffinity profile of "renowned" "paleo" "artist" Emily Willoughby, and it was very, VERY nsfw: and I'm not talking just plain furry porn, I'm talking graphic guro-dismemberment bestiality porn.

Feathertrannies are gurogays? I would never have imagined!

Literally the entirety of modern mesozoic paleontology is subversive, sick sexual fetishism. Literally that's all it fricking is.

Remember, kids: whenever you're being shouted down by "mainstream" paleoNPCs denying actual fossil evidence and trying to convince you of batshit insane theories that have become popular like "ornithoscelida" and magic invisible T. rex feathers, THESE are the sorts of "people" you're arguing with. This is what their side looks like: literal trannies, gurogays and nazifurs.
